I'm thinking of getting one. Is it a good choice? (I'd get the Q9550)

My situation is that I got a free computer, old and shitty but in a really nice case. I'm thinking with just a new CPU and GPU, I can turn it into an okay rig. (I'm poor). It has an old Core 2 duo, and I was thinking to put in the Core 2 Quad instead so I could get away with using the same motherboard. Is that a good idea?
