I use BlackPlayer. It's kind of shit to navigate and change what you're currently playing, but it is actually quite intelligent, downloading photos of the band/artist as well as a bio. Pretty feature rich, and not too heavy on permissions.

I just cannot fucking stand the default player, it's basically an integrated store that also plays music. I just want something simple like the iPhone music player, something that isn't a store, and doesn't require every permission under the sun.

Far from perfect but Vanilla is the one I've been Mr l most happy with.

It's really annoying how there's no good music players. It's not quite as bad on desktop but the phenomenon exists there as well. I should start making one myself so there's one more shitty one out there.
>>
I bought GMMP few years ago as no other player supported opus at that time, would use vanilla music but it still doesn't support opus on android 5.

I use PowerAmp because it's the only one that lets me sort my music by folders. Sucks it doesn't have material design though.

Phonograph is nice now but it will soon go bad. There's already a system for in-app purchases in it.

get the material design skin. I can't even look at the default ui anymore. search for poweramp skins and there will be one called material or something

It seems Vanilla relies on Android's decoding utilities for playback and that Opus support is/was borked there.

Could anyone running Marshmallow shed some light on if it's been fixed?

How come only vanilla has replay gain, why do all these big players not have the most basic feature, and the tiny foss one has it while being clunky as fuck?

They're all trash. Android is probably the worst platform for playing music I've ever used on a mobile device

>15 step volume
>Every music player has some major flaw with it
Examples
>Special snowflake UI that's absolute shit (PowerAmp, n7)
>Inability to change something as simple as album art or photos of the artist (Google Music and all its clones)
>Retarded bullshit like players which list the tracks on an album in ALPHABETICAL ORDER (Half of the Google Music clones on the play store it seems. Phonograph being the best example)
>No gapless (Pretty much everything except poweramp)
I mean Apple got it right in fucking 2007. Why can't Android developers get it right? It's so fucking stupid.
>>
The LG Stock app is good enough for me.
>>
>>53785892
you can change GPM album info through the desktop web client, but i agree it should be accessible through the mobile app (including uploading music)
>>
>>53785927
That would require me to upload my music. That requires me to use the shitty uploader client as well as using MP3. Fuck both of those.
>>
>>53785946
iirc it's not only mp3, i think it's flac and aac that's supported too.
agreed though, I attempt to avoid the uploading music part and just search for it and it to my library. if it's not on there ill upload it
>>
>>53785968
Everything that isn't MP3 you upload to their servers gets converted to 320Kbps CBR MP3s, which is completely fucking useless for anything. They should have at least used -v1.

BlackPlayer Pro.
I tried lots of different ones, and this one was a pleasant surprise.
Get it.
>>
>>53786013
On my home server yes, but I use AAC on my phone and main computer because I'm a Macfag. If I was still using Linux I'd try to use Opus. If I couldn't' use Opus I'd use Vorbis instead.
The only thing I use MP3 for is when I absolutely can't find the album in any other format.
>>
I use equalizer +
>>
>>53785892
besides for the 15 step volume GoneMad has none of these issues. I'm curious, what's wrong with it?
>>
>>53786056
Looks like I left a review saying it had an awful UI, but it seems like they fixed that.
Can't do anything about it since my trial ran out. I'll just keep using my Clip+.

Cyanogenmod music

Anyone else get the corrupted Unicode apostrophe like in pic related? I've had this happen with a couple different players
>>
>>53783273
>>53783273

This man is correct.

I used winamp before they cut off mobile support and then removed it altogether. Black Player is the closest that comes to matching Winamp.

Plus -- like anon said -- it has all the neat album covers and bios and shit like that. The only thing lacking is a shuffle feature when playing songs normally. It's basic I know but the only way to shuffle music is to hit the "shuffle playlist" button. There's no way to start on your favourite song and then make it shuffle from there.

Otherwise, solid player.

Not even closer, shit doesn't even support Opus.

>>53787557
>Why aren't you using viper4android for eq purposes?
I only need EQ on my phone for the music player and only in 2 points with a Q of 0.5 and 0.7 so a parametric one like Neutrons is perfect.

I don't recall Viper having a parametric EQ, and the lack of one is also the only thing keeping me from using Linux.

>>
>>53787627
Have you managed to make Neurons ui and scrolling? If so I'd love to know your settings.
>>
>>53787743
I control my music by holding the volume buttons and the lockscreen notification thing so the UI is not an issue for me but i do agree that is fucking ugly.

The scrolling thing is somewhat annoying yes but I'll take that little nuisance for the only player in Android with a param EQ, crossfeed and normalization every day.
>>
>>53787813
I feel similar, the features are the only thing keeping me on the player. Are the button scroll settings in the player or is this some pajeet hacker features you've implemented?

Last question for neutron bro. Any way to make it so the back hardware button doesn't exit the app? This is the worst feature. I'd like it to go to the previous menu like a normal application.
>>
>>53785892
>15 step volume
GravityBox fixes this if you have root and Exposed. Poweramp UI is ok if you use material skin and customize it to your liking.
>>
>>53788450
Every time I've used exposed it always took a few tries to actually get it to work. Then it stops working with each ROM update.
I'd rather not. I'm just going to get an iPhone.

Weird, it works like that for me.

The only screen where the back button exits the app is in the main screen, where the album art is and if you mean that, dunno, as i mentioned earlier i got used to manage the player by shortcuts instead of the app.
>>
>>53788588

Just tried BlackPlayer and still prefer the interface of Shuttle. I want my player to be fast to use, intuitive and functional, pretty doesn't really factor into it all that much. EQ is handled by V4A anyway.

I've used both for some considerable time, and Shuttle is buggy. Some albums get the wrong artwork, others won't download their artwork at all, albums and artists won't file in correct alphabetical order when you add new music to your device, etc.
