Alright /g/ I need your help. I was digging in the "corporate trashbin" at my work and found a fully functioning touchscreen lenovo laptop worth like $2000+ and they let me have it!!!

The problem is they never disabled the admin password and the bios is limited (I cannot boot from USB). How can I install a new OS on it?

I'll pay the person that provides me with an answer that works $40 paypal.
>>
Install Gentoo
>>
you should be able to boot from usb, fuck around in the bios some more. if the bios is passworded you're fucked.
>>
take the battery out of the motherboard to wipe the flash with the password in
>>
>>53778899
G is not your personal tech support.

Google is your friend.
>>
open laptop. take bios battery out or use the jumper to clear bios password.
>>
>>53778899
Open the machine up.
Reset the BIOS by removing the mainboard battery.
profit.
>>
OP: Is the bios password protected? Or does it just not have the functionality you need?

>>
>>53778899

Take hard drive out
then either use another computer to bypass the admin password or erase the entire drive and and install a fresh OS.
Put drive back in computer.

Can't circumvent a locked bios. Ask your IT guy for the bios pw
>>
>>53778951
It's a Thinkpad, the password is saved into a non volatile flash chip
Only way to remove the password it's with a machine that costs like 100 USD and needs to be connected straight to said chip
Best and easiest way is >>53779254 otherwise look for someone near who will reset Thinkpad supervisor passwords
>>
You can't reset bios with removing battery on lenovo/chinkpads. You can try shit like grub2win to install other os

You can buy a bypass admin chip on ebay or aliexpress
>>
>>53779057
Lol as fuck rn that laptop is worth less than my fucking mobo
>>
Return the laptop Tyronne
>>
>>53779057
If you can't get the password, you'll have to find someone with the tools and expertise to reset the bios password. good luck

>>
>>53779057
Disregard protected BIOS. Remove HDD, wipe, install the OS you want on it. Put it back, let it boot. No need to go into BIOS.
>>
>>53779057
If you can't manually choose boot device, remove HDD and disconnect ODD to force the machine to boot from USB.

Install Hirens Boot CD on the USB flash drive and run some of the tools on there for BIOS/CMOS. If those don't work then look up the schematics/owners manual and find out how to reset the password manually through the physical hardware (circuit short).

If neither of these work or you don't know how to do them then you are SOL bubba.
>>
>>53778937
This, find the cmos battery and remove it for like 15-20 mins. Should wipe. Although im quite sure the newer bios use nvram so there might be a certain pin to short out to reset it
>>
>>53782980
Nope. Lenovos store it in flash.
>>
>>53778899
Give it back taiquon
>>
You do not need to access the bios if you install an OS in the HD and then install the HD.

In other words the 'fix' is to desolder the BIOS chip from the mobo and replace it with one that doesn't have a password stored.

Unless there's something you actually desperately need to change in the hardware, do like >>53783553 said and install the OS using another computer, or at least enough of it to continue the install after you put it back.

You might also try adding GRUB chainloader entries to boot from USB sticks and CDs. Sure it requires the bootloader on your HDD to be intact but it gets you USB booting without needing to get into BIOS settings.

>stealing a fucking X230
Come on, Jamal, nobody in the hood will take you serious.
>>
>>53782246
This is the correct answer, BIOS passwords on laptops are too annoying to even bother cracking, just take the HDD out and install on another laptop then put it back.
