I didn't switch to Windows 8, well because it was Windows 8, a close cousin to Vista, and I didn't move to 8.1 because Microsoft thought to charge extra for Media Center which was and is still working just fine with the two Windows 7 systems that comprise my home's media system. Windows 10 doesn't include Media Center at all, although technically it is still there under the covers, but without much of its actual functionality. One of these machine constantly sends a pop-up asking to Upgrade to windows 10. It shouldn't but this popup sometimes causing timed recording issues. Worse yet, someday, I'm going to walk in and turn on my tv and discover I no longer have Windows 7 with Media Center to watch live and recorded content, but instead have a shiny new Windows 10 install that can't do 1/3 of what I actually purchased the computer to do and enjoyed for some time.

To begin with... everyone's got options to choose and so, there is no point crying about what M$ does.
If you want to continue using M$ Windows you need to accept what they push into you (you've given away that right when you accepted EULA and other legal stuffs they threw at you). If you choose GNU/Linux distributions, you need to live with finding alternatives for your favourite software.
My home computing is Ubuntu 14.04.3 64 Bit (using GNU/Linux distributions for the past 10 years at home), Windows 10 in office and MacBook with OS X El capitan (frankly, it's just lying there). I can easily say that I am not dependent on any of these operating systems.
I use GNU/Linux to ensure my household & personal information stays with me on a hassle free OS that actually lets me do my job.
I use Windows 10 at work since my company has accepted the fact that they are sold to Windows. They also have to worry about what scam M$ will pull next and whether whatever is done to their computers will leave them in the state they expect them to be.

Whenever I see someone with the W10 update prompt or even worse the OS itself it evokes that same mix of pity and disgust as when I see people with a dozen toolbars on their browser.
So, I'm not multi-lingual and don't care to try a translator... But that link at the bottom should be to schedule the upgrade later. You can go in there and then there's an option to cancel the upgrade. Or you could take anons suggestion and remove the update. Then again, conformity is inevitable. "Buggy" is the normal state of Windows drivers. I got a laptop that came with Windows 8.1. Sometimes after waking from sleep the sound card randomly craps out and won't make a peep again until I reboot. Sometimes Internet Connection Sharing randomly decides it doesn't want to DHCP over my ethernet anymore. Sometimes my touchpad randomly goes dead so I have to save work and reboot using only the keyboard or attach a USB mouse. Sometimes I get a notification that the GPU driver has crashed and reloaded.
When I run Linux, none of this bullshit happens. Ever. It might take a little more work to make everything work as well as Windows in the first place, but once you have it working at least it doesn't randomly shit itself.

Linux is trash, posting from mint with mate, Mint is supposed to just work, Right away i had to install a gui for grub because it was configured to just boot mint and ignore my windows install. Then i had to do some command line shit to install intel graphics drivers, had to get the package and then rebuild it with the linux version check removed so it would install on mint, Linux is garbage, if this is the "easy" linux then arch is literally a time wasting ARG.

if you were on 2000, then sure, it may not have been worth it to put xp on your computer, but for everyone else, xp was loved for a fucking reason, if it had proper 64bit support (remember at the time 64bit wasn't big and 64bit drivers were hit and miss) i may still be using it instead of 7.
unless something drastic happens, im not moving off 7, ill dual boot the newer windows, but im not going to give up 7 for normal use.
