Can i land a decent job with Network + and CCNA certifications? Im burnt out of my CS degree (I need abou 40 credits left to graduate) and want to drop out and go into IT.
>>
you'll be throwing $30k+/year out the window if you quit now.
and it'll be harder to find a job.
>>
>>53738344
What if I went to school in the meantime? If I continue I'll probably fail out because I'm also facing some mental health issues.
>>
>>53738287
Why not both, shithead. Are you so some swamped by the pathetic CS work that you cannot obtain a multidisciplinary education?
>>
>>53738375
I can't do a multidisciplinary degree with IT at my university since it's attached to some business major.
>>
>>53738371
why does every faggot on here have mental problems? is it just an excuse or what.
why do your mental problems hurt your schooling but won't hurt your work?
you don't need certs if you have a degree.
>>
>Why, on a site for rejected outcasts, does everyone have mental problems.
Legit mental issues can impair work and study ethic. Though its usually a crutch for ones shortcomings.
>>
>>53738287
Stay in school. Work through your issues with a therapist. If you dont have healthcare you school definitely will provide one. Talk to you Disability resource center about what you should do.
>>
>>53738433
no I've been diagnosed. I stopped taking my medication because I like to have sex and the medication makes me limp. I do better self-teaching than a school, so that's why I bought the CCNA and Network + study books. I just need a starter job that pays ok so I can finish my degree and hopefully move up to a better position in whichever company I end up working at.
>>
>>53738483
>Bought the books
You could easily have found this http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1305090942/ref=s9_simh_gw_g14_i1_r?ie=UTF8&fpl=fresh&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_s=desktop-1&pf_rd_r=1SJKMJJT30STBP647HFG&pf_rd_t=36701&pf_rd_p=2437869742&pf_rd_i=desktop as a torrent
>>
>>53738483
Your doctor will provide you viagra stay on your meds. For me I take welbutrin for Depression and its like having sex on mdma. Might want to work with a doctor to get the right medication down.

Also why cant you just take out student loans to pay your way through school?

You really do not want to be going into the IT field its full of unintelligent dumb asses that think they know everything and they don't even have degrees. Get a degree.
>>
Thanks, I'll consider using this also. I already bought the books so it's kind of a moot issue now lol. How difficult would it be looking for an IT job after I get these certifications and at my education level? What pay should I expect?
>>
>>53738287
>I need abou 40 credits left to graduate
40 credits sounds like the entire degree

>>53738483
>I like to have sex
is this a fucking b8 thread?
>>
>>53738551
$20/hr starting
Its just not worth it. The market is saturated. Once you have 10+ years experience you can start to expect to see 70k+
>>
>>53738535
Well I'm thinking of becoming a system administrator, so I thought I could study IT and my degree. I do have loans, but I don't want to be drowned by them. I'll ask my doctor about the wellbutrin though.

>>53738563
those responses are both mine (OP).

It's like 12 classes that I need left so 40 credits or so. I just know it's like 12 classes.

The medication makes me limp and I like having sex it makes me happy. When I couldn't have sex I just got more depressed. Now that I have an active sex life I don't want to give it up.
>>
>>53738563
40 credits is a degree its going from an associates to a bachelors.

How is it not worth it? I'm curious because I don't want to be stuck in a shitty job. 20/hr to me sounds great while I get a degree. It sounds like I want a job for school but I really want to start in a company and work my way up while I finish my CS degree part time (that way it's more manageable). I'm also not interested in my computer science classes so I saw IT as a good alternative.

>>53738611
oh, well I need about 12 classes that's all I know. If it's not that close to graduating then I guess it's not.
>>
>>53738601
Getting the degree and drowning in debt is better worth it that working a shitty sysadmin position surrounded by retards.
I speak the truth I though the same thing as you and did what you are planning and I ended up more in debt and then quit my job and went back to school. Dont do it OP
>>
>>53738639
If you are going to work at a Company doing Sysadmin when you are in school. They will do everything to try and entice you from getting a degree including pay. When you are a sysadmin usually you will be on call nights and weekends and this will interrupt your schooling even more(on top of mental issues). Just go to school finish your degree and get a kush programming job out of school.

>>53738713
The thing is I"m not too interested in programming. Is that stupid since I want to go into IT?

>>53738648
You did exactly what I'm planning? How'd you get more into debt?
>>
>>53738758
If you want to go into IT you have to try it and realize how sucky it is. Maybe you wont but every day was shit for me being surrounded by dumabsses.

The more debt came from a moving in with a girlfriend and thinking that I could live off 20/hr. I couldn't and struggled for 2 years to get out of debt by working more and more and It never happened.

37 2 le matin. It's my favorite French film. She's hotter in the movie than she is now. In English the movie is called Betty Blue.

>>53738847
Woah your life sounds similar to mine. I like IT from what I read though. Are the people there really that bad?

look at job postings and evaluate your self based on your skill and their requirements. Most of /g/ is 17 year old mcdonalds employees, dont expect to get anything constructive here.

You can have a masters degree and work at walmart or you could drop out of high school and work at google. It all depends on your competence and study abilities.

With CCNA and a good interview there is no reason you couldnt get 60k, and thats in some suburban area.
>>
>>53738287
deal meth. better money, better hours.
>>
>>53739221
really? even with a ccna, network +, and some college I could get a decent salary? I live near a tech hub so I thought it could be possible.
>>
>>53739295
The resume/interview is everything. Be clean shaven and dressed nicely, good hair and good clothes. Be 20 minutes early, sit outside, and walk in 10 minutes early.

dont be afraid to lie about experience, just dont be too extreme. think of examples or just BS times when you really enjoyed your IT job, how excited you are and what you want to learn in the future. Mention you are wanting to get the VCP-DCV cert as well as some other cisco ones.

on your resume throw a bunch of shit on there like OSI Model, VM Ware, Desktop Support etc etc

Always have questions ready when they ask.
>>
>>53739295
That will even decrease your pay because you are next to a tech hub

Check out this video about signaling

>>
>>53739391
well it's central Texas. I've considered moving to Portland, Oregon or Pittsburgh though
>>
>>53739483
Portland is actually great if you want to do Sysadmin. They have very few tech people who want to live there when Seattle is bigger and better.
>>
>>53739483
actually this video is a better discussion about signaling with college degrees

not worth it

networking doesn't fetch a lot of money unless you really know what you're doing and have been doing it for at least 5 years
>>
>>53739550
>>53739414
I appreciate the vids lol. I'll give them a watch when I get out of class. I've never heard of signaling and it's pretty interesting.

>>53739527
I like the weather and the vibe there. Hopefully the pay is good.

5-year Marine Data veteran. I'm getting exactly 70k in Austin, TX.

No certs, just a decent resume and experience working on small enterprise projects.

And yes OP, wear nice clothes with a decent haircut and shave and you'll be alright.
>>
>>53739684
where did you start off? also, what do you do?

>>53739621
what is the starting pay based off your experience
>>
>>53738287
Don't do it i you don't want to.
>>
I would finish the degree and then do networking with a focus on automation/scripting. SDN is the future

I joined at 19 knowing how to build gaming PCs

I EAS'd about 8 months ago and my biggest skill sets were VMware, SAN deployments, Cisco networking, and Windows Server/AD/Group Policy.

I work for an MSP now and the biggest thing I'm lacking is help desk (since I literally never did it) and WAN networking/firewalls
