I just manage it like I manage my bookmarks. I think I might might make a quicker search plugin that instantly shows results as you type characters in.

I keep the database synced with other devices with Dropbox (my database password is fairly complex). I also backup it once in a while to an external hard drive.
If you aren't comfortable with having it in Dropbox, you could configure a key file, put that in all your devices and then put the database in Dropbox. Haven't tried this with ios devices though
