Hating on iTunes is so 2007.

It's actually a rather decent program now. And I don't even have an iPhone/iPad/iDevice. I actually used it to manage my music (for years after I switched to Android) before I switched to using Spotify Premium.
>>
>>53707752
Every version I've used is an atrocious excuse for a media player.

Why? It just works. It launches. You click your music. It plays.

iTunes is not meant to be your "Windows Media Player" for opening audio files. It's an actual music player with your library in it.

Apple.

my thoughts from 2005, but i doubt anything has changed.

Its main problems:

1) iTunes was originally SoundJam MP, an MP3 player for Mac OS 9 by Cassady & Greene. Apple bought it and turned it into iTunes. As far as I can tell, iTunes' codebase is still within this lineage, meaning they've been piling features on that same old base for ages. Worse, because it was originally an OS 9 program, it's not designed for modern operating systems at all.

2) The part that's not centered around an ancient codebase are janky web app bullshit.

3) There's too many features crammed in. iTunes should be about *music*, fuck the rest. iDevice management, movies, TV shows, etc should be split out into their own dedicated apps.

...and iTunes 1.0, which was derived from it.

This is the sort of simplicity that needs to make a comeback, except maybe this time without the brushed metal.

Not so much. You can get the sidebar back (kinda) but they're trying to phase the sidebar out in favor of a confusing multi-mode bar thing.

i use windows specifically to use iTunes.

imo, it is leaps and bounds over any media player available on Linux or windows. i don't even use an iDevice. Just a desktop.

Fun history bonus: the OS X Public Beta (10.0 prerelease) shipped with a music player that was different from both SoundJam and iTunes (see pic). In the final release of OS X 10.0 it was replaced by iTunes 1.0.

>>53708124
It's so you can sign in with your Apple ID for the iTunes Music Store, iTunes Match, Apple Music, etc.

ALAC is open source. What are you even talking about, specifically?

lol, what? "1 way data transfers" where? what are you talking about?
>>
>>53708166

hey - did you know the first device to sync with iTunes was a Motorola Rockr?

Sorry /g/eek wannabees! Apple isn't the monster GNU and the net told you it was!
>>
>>53708153
For windows at least, there's a program called Foobar2000 that does everything you want (manage a library, show a few visualizations, and "just work"), without trying to shill albums, being bloated as fuck, or forcing a shitty "sync" paradigm down your throat.
>>
>>53708220
Does iTunes still sync with non-Apple products now that they have market share?

7 years after they created it. before that it was closed. They created it to lock you into apple products. if you bought songs on itunes you couldn't run them anywhere else.

can't upload from ipod to computer without 3rd party tools

Still kinda goofy though. Sidebars/source lists are infinitely better UI/UX than goofy icon-based multi-mode context sensitive button bars.

Apple has never sold ALAC format anything, ever. The only thing it's ever been used for is lossless CD ripping in iTunes.

Why do people hate it so much? It's helps to keep your music library in order doesn't it?

It's the best looking music player though. Sure it takes like 300MB and the search is stupid but it's so pretty!

Not true, iOS apps can support this. They then get a place in iTunes where you can get data to and from the app.

I started hackintoshing with 10.8. Also used 10.6 for a while.

Back then, apple's software was geniunely great. But now I have to force myself to use any of their software.
Even though my computer boots to OS X by default, I usually boot Windows instead.
It's truly become fisher price shit so that no normie could possibly hurt themselves. Fuck that.
>>
>>53713536
There's no other reliable and easier way to get music to apple devices.
>>
So your problem is actually the iOS sync and not the player itself. iTunes itself is a great music player desu.
>>
>>53713666
Okay, so why are you using Apple devices for music?

Get a separate media player and be done with it.
>>
Why the fuck are you using iTunes in the first place?

It's a terrible player, there's literally no reason to use it. If you use it for syncing, you should have know better than to use a cuck phone. If you actually purchase your media there, then I guess there's really no saving a kike financing cuck.

So keep on hating, because Crapple knows you'll keep on using it like a good cuck.

Well that's either an outright lie or you are really, really stupid. Like "can't even operate iOS/iTunes"-level stupid.

That's even worse, it's a standalone chrome tab wrapping a website to act like a desktop app. It's not native at all.
