How many of you fuckers use Kodi?

Tutorial: How to install SuperRepo on Kodi http://howtomediacenter.com/en/tutorial-how-to-install-superrepo-on-kodi/
>>
I want to buy a simple set top box for playing my anime that's located on my NAS.
Ideally, it should just be a full fledged computer with linux so I can play video with MPV and a remote so I can control MPV.

Do these exist?
>>
>>53704619

The one I posted in the OP and other similar ones like the Nvidia shield can do it easily. There's a shitload of anime addons for Kodi as well.

Can they play Hi10p video?
Can they handle fancy subs?
Can it maintain a decent connection speed of at least 4MB/s to my router?

I've bought other boxes in the past and they always have something wrong with them.
>>
>>53704823

It plays 4K files and streams 1080p with no problems.
>>
>>53704916
yes, it's easy to playback stuff on low end hardware when h264 is hardware accellerated on even the shittiest devices.

I'm asking if it can handle software decoding, because hi10p has no hardware support on any platform.
>>
Why do people buy these chinkboxes?

Then why do you insist on using this retarded format?
>>
>>53705754
all my anime comes like that
it plays fine on my computer, i just want a set and forget box plugged into my TV.
Honestly, I'm thinking of just getting a C2D tower from the swapmeet for $20 and using that, fuck power usage.
>>
>>53705833
get a nuc with solid state parts.
You have to pay for that hi10 if you want a small form factor machine.
>>
>>53706076
>400 bucks

what the fuck is this shit
>>
>>53706299
look for older refurbished with i3's
>>
I buy MXQs and set them up so they only have addons to work and sell them for $100. I make $600 every time I sell 10. It's a pretty sweet setup considering I live in a small town full of old people who will never bother to learn how to do it themselves.

Plex is shit tier and aimed to 'tards, the only good thing it's their future mpv-based player, which hopefully won't be castrated to cater to 'tards

Tempted to buy a Beelink Mini MX at GB for $34. Has the recent S905 chip and looks like it might still be getting firmware updates. Any opinions? Not really sure where to start, I just want something that can a blu-ray remux well.

no

Hm ok. Rockchip or the others any better? Or is it not worth bothering with any non-htpc?

Don't bother with any chinese box. Wait for the next wave of Android TV boxes.

What makes emby better than plex?

lol
>>

Emby is the foss version of plex. I have a plex server noe, streaming to ipad and to apple tv thru airplay.
Waiting for my orange pi, which i will run kodi or emby on, more plug ins for kodi then plex
>>
>>53705668
Is this better then just streaming from kodi to kodi?
>>
>>53712086
No. Just share from SMB to Kodi.

An Emby server is just like Plex server. Mindless bloat. All you need is a shared folder.

It's a good chip
>>

Why? It works, I have no complaints whatsoever.
>>
>>53709540
I'm planning to get one just to install tinycam pro (basically turn it to a mini nvr)
I've tried motioneye/zoneminder on my rpi but there's always this 20 second delay with the stream.
Not to mention really low framerates.
Is amlogic 905 good enough for this?
>>
>>53714008

Can you install Kodi on there?
>>
>>53711922
Whats the point of Kodi plugins?
My experience is that they are slow and unstable.

I just want to watch my videos, and Plex offers the easiest and most stable solution.
>>
>>53706299
MSi Cubi Barebone is sub 200$
>>
whats a good tv box that packs good ram / processor and gpu? I want a media streaming / emulator machine.
>>
>>53716082
The Nvidia Shield TV is the most powerful Android box.
>>
I have an Android Box and a Chromecast/tablet. The Chromecast is the better option, simply because of the ease of navigation with the touchscreen on the tablet.
>>
I have an SFF box made of old computer parts which I stuck Ubuntu and Kodi on (didn't know about OpenElec at the time).

Plays local files and anything on our home network, linux is a fucking shitter for getting sound to work over optical though and randomly breaks every now and then.
>>
>>53704823
Most of Android boxes should be able to play 720p Hi10p. Mx Player handles fancy subs, but doesn't animate subs at 100%.

Some examples:

Goog image search your pic. Wanna try this out as it seems like a good alternative to my plex pie setup I was thinKing of getting.

Literally dozens of listings on Amazon. How do I tell them apart and order the right one?

Also how does this compare to a Plex server I was going to set up on a raspie hooked up to my 4tb external

I use pic related. Kind of shit service wise but the UI is on point. I've heard the NVidia one works miles better with the remote, but this thing has seem to be all but forgotten by google. But Plex alone makes this device top notch. Got it for $30 so there's not much room to complain.

On the positive notes, it has a good amount of apps, smooth UI, voice search is neat when it works (no longer seems to with the remote), Plex for Android seems better than any other app I've used. Also runs Marshmellow.

Downsides, support is non existent for most apps, the Netflix app is fairly shoddy, voice search does not work with it, there's a bug where the app wont even install or show on the play store, STILL no web browser, not even chrome, no way to organize apps on the home screen, no way to hide apps without disabling or uninstalling them, no way to switch accounts which is super annoying when other people use your youtube account and get their suggestions. It's a decent effort but google needs to do some of this shit themselves.

Nvidia one supports 4K

One of these + steam link or HTPC/Steambox?
>>

h264 4k hi10?

Regular h264 4k should be issue for most of new boxes.
>>
>>53718427
Using Plex, yes it can play 10-bit 4K from the review videos I've watched. I'd assume they were testing h264 files.

Exodus works great for me.
>>

Just buy a Roku or a Jewvidia shield box

What are you talking about? It's been doing that for over 2 months now since the launcher update.

N Preview does this on the Nexus Player.
>>
>>53718515
Running N preview with the beta opt in, how do I enable this? I haven't mulled around the new menus enough I guess.
