There's a point at which you just say "well, I have a phone that has higher specs than that one computer I used to make stupid shit on photoshop and premiere pro, can't I just have something that works fast by default and doesn't need any fucking tinkering?"
Nowadays I'm not sure I'd go the apple way, but it does get kinda tiring to get a product, be it hardware of software and learn that it's not complete, it's not done, not consistent, needs a fix, needs to be modified or some stupid shit, doesn't work smoothly because it's unoptimized, etc. You want tools that have been there for long, you want them to work exactly as they should for long enough that you won't care.
I'd rather get a device you can't tinker with if it's going to provide what I want out of the box than have something where I just installed a new CM ROM and suddenly my battery is dropping faster by doing exactly the same tasks. Or have google go all "oh hey, there's another version of Lollipop that starts with the letter S and has the same fucking interface, just a few new features and less stability, go flash that real quick". Even the newest Android phones are sometimes better off with older versions.
I still feel it's overpriced though, but for sure I would replace what I have with that if I could. I don't care about having to use iTunes to transfer shit, as it happens in my case I don't tinker too much with the phone in the first place. I just want something fast and stable.

I've toyed with iphones before and the only times something like this happened was when running some broken beta (I volunteered).
Just press the home button and continue doing whatever you've been doing. The iOS betas have never had a bug which would prevent you from using your phone as intended.

IT has F-droid by default but you can install google services.
It has good support for nexus 5 now so we have all the security patches. It's pretty good so far.
When I have time I may read in-depth what it actually changes under the hood.
Their work is sometimes pushed upstream in aosp, I think they really try to improve android security,
and they're doing a good job at that.

Good. When the 6 came out I bought a 5S to upgrade from my 5. I don't want a fucking streamlined phone which slips in my hand while I'm out. I don't want a phone which is too large for comfortable one handed use. Stop with the hand size shit, if there's this many complaints at size then it was an issue, otherwise that would mean about 40% of the population are dwarfs.
The 5S was the pinnacle of Apple's phone design, I was thinking I'd have to hold onto my 5S forever but I'm glad I can still have the same form factor with current year internals.

i have large hands but short thumbs. can't one hanf any of these large phones at all. i've read pro basketball players who can easily palm a basketball are having the same problem. you have to make concessions for a larger screen unless the screen is much larger ~8 inches and use two hands. it's really hard to two hand a 5-7 inch phone, let alone one hand.

Since it's a post posted by me, I think it's given that it should display my personal perspective, and as somebody who wants to buy a phone and not a tablet, obviously they are pretty shit for me.
But I don't want to hurt any feelings, so let me say that objectively they aren't that bad. They simply don't offer any different screen options. Through entire Android spectrum, about 7-10 flagships, there is a single phone that offers small screen size.

Huaweifag here. Hate my phone. Lags like shit. Not too long ago was getting my phone out of pocket to make a call. Unlocked it, literally desktop froze and all dwsktop icons including menu disappeared. Waited around 3 mins started raging and restarted phone, which took another 3mins even when have zero startup apps. Browser crashes almost everytime, especially when theres a bit complex and medium, heavy image based websites. it is pretty often happens that my keyboard wont show up until i reopen sms app or browser 5 times. Yup, thats me having single core cpu paired with 0.5gb ram. Truly cancerous experience
