kill me now

I must be the only person who likes smooth scrolling

Though I admit the thing in new Chrome versions is terrible, I can't use that thing without the smoothscroll extension.

Are you serious?

On Firefox, that is the first thing I disable as soon as I install it on a new machine. I HATE smooth scrolling, it feels so weird.
>>
>>53660271
Yes, they've said in their developer forums that they'll remove the flag to disable it in a few versions.

Well gramps it's actually better for people who have good eyesight and it's not crippled by motion sickness.
>>
>>53660279
it can still be disabled via an extension. kinda annoying it isnt a built in setting as i prefer to disable it.
>>

This

let's not forget any smartphone has that globally set

Get a better job and buy a decent GPU, brindash.
>>
>>53660331
Why would you want it? It doesn't make any sense on a computer.

it just makes scrolling laggier
>>
Got a link for proof? I find it hard to believe they'd remove the flag from chrome://flags for no reason.
>>
>>53660271
The problem with Firefox's default scrolling is the fucking acceleration! It doesn't scroll at a consistent speed- IT'S NOT FUCKING SMOOTH

>>53660292
and then when they gimp their extension engine...

>>53660327

etc
>>

>>53660394
Smooth scrolling lags on my 960 and scrolling is instantaneous without it. There's no reason for a web browser to need a 980 or r9 fury.

If scroll wheels were designed such that small movements moved things on the screen pixel by pixel, it would be a different story. But smooth scrolling is a clunky solution to smooth animation between separate lines of text.
>>
>>53660449
Nigga with a 6850 I could scroll smoothly perfectly

It's a matter of preference, I don't get that Chrome devs think that it should be forced, everyone should be able to disable it but it being superior or inferior is highly subjective

Personally I'm not about to quickscope posts or anything like that and it looks nicer to have smooth scrolling. I have no problem with scrolling an specific amount with it and it doesn't exactly feel "accelerated" if it's done right.
>>
>>53660246
It works rather well with extensions, the native implementation is absolute garbage and the steps to small.
All they need to do is to fucking make it works like every mobile device ever, how the fuck it still lags using a 750ti + an i7-4790 while a piece of shit 800mhz atom mobile soc can do it smootly?

I hope they remove the physical keyboard input from chrome too. Using a physical keyboard on PC-chrome and a virtual keyboard on Smartphone-chrome gets too confusing for the average user.

Or are you a luddite?
>>

I'm on integrated intel graphics and it doesn't lag at all, I don't know what you nigga are doing
>>
>>53660495
Indeed, this is the real deal

https://github.com/galambalazs/smoothscroll

The guy has a program that works on OSX that does that globally, but who is going to pay money for that shit though

I wish linux had this

yeah and they could also stop allowing adblock extensions. lots of possible what ifs. for now it isnt something to worry about though.
>>
>>53660495
>>53660449
Sounds like a driver issue, shouldn't lag on your hardware.
>>
>>53660271
Fuck man I didn't even know I had it on, shit's much better now without it. It no longer feels like I'm scrolling through mud
>>
>>53660449
I have a 960 on linux and it doesn't lag at all..>>53660447
you can turn off ff accelerated scrolling kek
>>
>>53660246
Chromium devs will just add it back or include an extension.
>>
Why don't you just file the shaft of your mouse's scroll wheel to make it difficult to scroll?
>>
>>53660543
Indeed, works really well.

>>53660521
On websites with lots of clickable elements and mouse hoover actions it still lags, apparently chrome check for those actions every frame and it makes scrolling lag as hell. There is no reason for a desktop to not get constant 60fps on those actions, it gets worse if you have any sort of significant background cpu use.
>>
>>53660624
Kill you'reself xD
>>
>>53660640
Combination of poor website design, shitty JS and crap code. Modern websites and browsers are cancer.
>>
>>53660640
Well I don't use chrome
On firefox I've got no problems, maybe on some poorly designed website it would fuck it up tho
>>
>>53660246
Always preferred browsing on chrome than firefoxn never understood why. Then I tried out Firefox again last year and realized - the font smoothing drove me crazy.
It's so stupid. It's slow and wierd, a desktop differs from touch surfaces because it's snappy and quick, it's about efficiency and speed rather than looking cool like in a commercial.

Besides, a mousewheel isn't smooth, it 'clicks' the wheel, it feels pergectly intuitive with immediate scrolling. Making the movement twitchy while the display is smooth just creates a cognitive dissonance and irritates me.

A finger has smooth movement, so it makes sense to have it on a touch-based surface. Not a mousewheel.

I use force GPU compositing flag currently. It's buggy as hell, but smoother. Curiously, the issue doesn't exist on phones.

Comming next: smooth typing. Letters are not meant to appear instantly, right? Why the fuck are they doing that shit, they already had ACTUALL smooth scrolling by mouse wheel click. Mouse wheel moves discretely, why the fuck page content shouldn't?

I think the problem is that you don't know shit about computers, son.

I'm using an Edge series ThinkPad, e130. Its got a fucking 3rd gen i3 and HD 4000 graphics. I can even stream 4k on this without issue. My scrolling is buttery smooth on everything. You're fucking something up when your gaymen r1g can't even scroll on a fucking website without noticeable issues.

Ok buddy, I understand you're frustrated. This machine can run its own monitor and an external 1080p one while maintaining its performance perfectly. One day you will be able to komputah.
>>
>>53663174
I accidentally deleted the vaseline in GIMP when I was manually removing the white line (used bucket tool with too much threshold), well, at least it'll move more people to my side and more will hate the white line, r-right?

>>
>>53663326

Please enlighten us, all-knowing computer wizard. What is smooth scrolling?
>>
>>53660246
Smooth scrolling is great for touch pads but it's fucking trash for mouse-wheel scrolling. It makes no sense that the screen should intentionally scroll slower than my mouse wheel "snaps", it's completely contrary to good design.
>>
>>53663345
It's not about the definition. Maybe ability, I think? Three different people haven't seen any delays on my screen while I did. My issue with Chrome's smooth scroll is not the stuttering(there's none) and not the time it takes, but the delay it introduces before it even STARTS scrolling.
>>
>>53663389

Correct, for people who use mice which scroll in notches smooth scrolling just doesn't have the feedback action your brain expects so it feels weird. For mice with notchless scroll wheels its ok, but nobody uses those because they're shit.

>>53663457

Yeah I found the problem. You have real and actual autism and no clue on what you're talking about, not surprised at all. Maybe you just have bionic eyes.

One scroll tick down = a specific amount of lines down.
