BTRFS is cool, why aren't you using it?
>>
>>53659747
because "cool" isnt a reason to format my hard drives :/
>>
I don't see the point of snapshots
>>
>tfw my hard drives will never be cool

oh well
>>
None of the operating systems I use support it
>>
>>53659747
It's not cool enough to make me abandon windows, and format 20TB+ of NTFS HDD's.

Maybe when I've got more money, I will probably setup some network linux drives on fiber.
>>
Just look at how very little space snapshots use, yet they're complete lifesavers!

cant u just tar your hdd tho?
>>
>>53659851
I've gotten by all my life without snapshots, sure dont need them now.
>>
>>53659898
That's retarded, takes too long, uses too much resources and space, isn't transparent and most importantly takes a long time to get back running instead of seconds with snapshots.
>>
>>53659898
Snapshots keep track of differences.
You can make a snapshot once a day without running out of space.
>>
>>53659747
i don't trust it
>>
COW master race.
>>
>>53659814
cause there's none
>>
>>53659935
But you trust ext4 and xfs that shit the bed whenever fsync fails or is late, or god forbid a blackout happens.
>>
>>53659914
so were using snapshots as a reliable alternative to backups?
sounds fucking retarded to me
>>
>>53659960
No, you use them when "Something happened" and go back to before said "something happened"
And since btrfs keeps track of changes you can find out what said "something happened" is.
>>
>>53659956
i don't know what those things are, i think i use hfs or whatever apple gave me where i don't have to worry about capital letters and stuff

Or you can use backups.

About twenty backups of two computers
Original size Compressed size Deduplicated size

They only happen in the United States.

Is it one of those things where niggers flood the city and you can only see black?
