Well, if you disabe all the google related stuff in the settings, you're pretty much botnet free and if you're still unsure, it's open source so you can check it yourself.
Only "drawback" with chromium is that you'll have to update it on your own.

Also, flash kinda sucks in chromium on my ubuntu. Not a problem until you want to watch a movie online or some shut. Using chrome with google related stuff, cookies and scripts disabled. Am I still in botnet?
