I have to say, this does raise an interesting ethical (ish) question to myself.
Now, the AI was purposely flooded by /pol/, and being an AI coded in a way vulnerable to such things, that leaves it taking on /pol/ positions as somehow "illegitimate" in my mind. (The same would be true if you flooded it with my own political views, although obviously I'd be slightly more amenable to the idea.)
But at the same time, this is applicable in similar strokes to any real person. If you only provided /pol/ as a source of political information to any flesh-and-blood person, it's quite likely they too would come to /pol/ conclusions on political events, even if these conclusions were (for argument sake) objectively inaccurate.
This raises some interesting questions for democracy in the age of data-mining and targeted advertising, as well as for the coherence of my own ideology.
(Not to mention for the hypothetical voting rights of future advanced AI's, because it's literally a computer it's a lot easier to say "yeah, but it's been trained to vote that way!" even though the same is largely true of 'real' people.)

The mainstream ideology of the times is roughly described as "right wing" neoliberal capitalism combined with "left wing progressive" stances on immigration, race, sexuality, etc. People are being distracted from economic matters ("what we've got now is the only option available") with social ones (look at him, he doesn't want gay marriage!))
It's hard to even say whether this is intentional manipulation from those above, or just a reaction to how entrenched the economic orthodoxy is. (I want to enact social change, there's no clearly articulated economic alternative, so I'll vaguely pin myself to "socialism" and campaign on social issues instead!)
Now, I'm of the (vague) left myself (not-American, so even Sanders - who does offer an economic alternative to those in the US - isn't all that interesting because his "alternative" is just moving closer to the majority of first world countries on economic issues, within the same general framework.) but I don't easily slot into this because I'm not particularly concerned with pushing on social issues. (However even I'm stuck in the same area as Sanders, tinkering with welfare in capitalism instead of having an actual alternative.)
Perhaps social issues being such a popular discussion point is a general reaction to the weakness of government as a result of the current economic orthodoxy. With governmental hands to effect 'real' change essentially tied, people choose instead to campaign on social issues that - while occasionally requiring some policy-tinkering from government, are largely rooted in social attitudes that can be changed independently.
n.b. while I've said I'm of the left and refer to "the economic orthodoxy" I should probably emphasise that I'm not a revolutionary socialist/communist type, I don't know what alternative - if any - exists. It's just easy to see one isn't being realistically offered.

I suppose the crux of the matter is partially what we put emphasis on between fiscal and social policy.
Most discussion on social media is about social policy, so it could be make the appearance that far more people are hard-left on all issues than there actually are.
Here in the US, social policy historically varies wildly between states, and (in my opinion) should be left to the states to decide. This gives each region of people the right to decide what they would prefer, as local social policies are self-contained and do not affect other states in any meaningful way. I lean left on some social matters, but I am against amnesty for illegals, and I support the ban on immigration from predominantly Muslim countries.
On the other hand, I am right-leaning on fiscal policy, as you mentioned in your post. However, I believe most fiscal matters should be governed by the Federal government, as economics in one state can greatly affect others. Also, inter-state commerce and international commerce should all be governed at the Federal level.
