Brace yourself, wall of text and rant.

My very first computer, I decided to buy a 2007 MBP, because of the intel chip and bootcamp. I figured, hey I'd get the best of both worlds and a portability, I got exactly what I wanted. The screen was fantastic, I was able to do homework and play games. I found software alternatives for anything windows had. I spent $2600 on a 15" MBP 160gb. Also spent $150? on extended warranty. By 2008 I accidentally cracked the screen, that cost me $750.

By 2009 the entire system was beginning to slow down. I suppose because of various software updates and OS upgrades. The battery was STEAMING, you could burn your hands if you touched anywhere near the hinge of the laptop. In the same year the battery cycle got fucked up, and the charging wire frayed, the cost of the battery was free(covered under extended warranty), but I had to buy a charger for $100 or $150. Also by this point playing new games was a pipe dream.

I think by 2011 the OSX side of the computer was CRAWLING. The windows side performed way better. It was a chore to use OSX. My buddy wanted me to play the upcoming Diablo3. I suspected it wouldn't work at all. He showed me where I could get some compatible ram($100), I went from 2gb to 6gb and I upgraded to a 250gb hdd for free. Wasn't much noticeable difference, felt like a waste. He also showed me I could try doing an external graphics card using the express card slot. I never did it, because by now I realized the laptop became a money sink. I'm also tired of craning my neck to look down at a 15inch screen, so I spent $200 on a good Asus monitor. One of my favorite expenses, I'm still using it today. It's holding up strong.

2012 comes, I buy Diablo3 at launch price, my friends get pissed I am moving across my screen like peanut butter. They are PISSED at me. I wasted my fucking money. I try to play other steam games with them and I just can't, they dropped me as a playing buddy. And I became the "conversational buddy" they feel like talking to on a boring non-gaming day. I deserve it, but I'm super bitter about that. Mountain Lion was released, and in an article it showed that my computer was NOT compatible for an update. I said what the fuck why can't I? Couple this, with the ENDLESS trashing about macbooks and being a hipster ALL this time. And the ipods/itouches I bought were all breaking cracking, the hard-drives were clicking, software becoming outdated. It wreaked havoc on my mind. I'm like "that's it i'm just going to build a PC, I'm tired of this shit." It finally got some kind of error, heat related? It doesn't boot up anymore.

Sure the flaming shit said basically the same thing, but this one dude really broke it down for me on one of these forums, and the dude was like "It's a vicious cycle! Apple products are for people that are well off, because they make them incompatible every 2 years." Basically, yeah it's targeted for yuppies, upper eschalon individuals. Even if you aren't they try to make it seem like the apple stuff is for everybody. But you do need to have some money to maintain or buy a new product every so often. I had no business touching an apple product. So I did build the machine in 2012 for 1400$, I had a monitor, and I got a free dell ips monitor a keyboard and mouse. I'm still using it til now. Very very happy with it. Would I buy an apple product again? It was still a good experience, despite the expenses and limits. the iphones I had still run great. I'd consider it as a gamble where I feel like throwing my money away. Still, one of the biggest regrets in my life.

I vaguely regret buying a Phenom II X4 that was on sale at Microcenter for $50 in 2012. The reason I regretted it was because I never used it really, not because of the measly $50. I still use an Athlon II X2 because it is lower power. The Phenom is in storage and now worthless on ebay and worthless for modern games. Overpowered for what I use the Athlon for so I have no use for it.

buying Acer

The specs were decent, but holy shit their build quality is rock bottom. All I wanted was an 11in laptop that was speedy enough to use Chrome and maybe build something in Visual Studio without it taking forever.
and for a while, all was good

one of the machines is taped together (it fell? like, I never dropped it, but the hinges weren't there anymore, so it probably got knocked around at some point) and the other is stone dead and I pulled the drive and RAM out of it (and this one just out and out started failing, had the original HDD fail slowly, the clickpad just died and didn't click anymore, the machine stopped charging properly, and it doesn't even come up with a full battery in it now)
and my current laptop, despite taking the same level of abuse (mostly just being carried around a bunch, no drops or shit like that) and whatever has no dents or dings or anything

Never had anything like this in my life. Abused the shit out of a Dell Latitude from like 2002-2008, had a semi-crappy Dell laptop that has power port trouble from 2009-2011 (I still have it, but it's pretty slow, even with fresh installs of Win7 and Xubuntu), and then I got an Acer 11in laptop for portability in 2012 or so, and then another different one with an i5 like 3 years later

>>53652847
>staying with OS/2
when I used OS/2, it ended up being me running a bunch of 16-bit Windows programs and like one or two native OS/2 programs

and hardware support on OS/2 was awful for like no reason, even with IBM-made machines
Windows was pretty dumb (the stability of Windows 95 drops to zero within like a day of prolonged use, and NT had completely obnoxious sysreqs -- particularly regarding RAM, but also needed some CPU heft behind it), but the UI was nice (although before 95 was awful, and after it was MS making things worse instead of better), hardware support was good, and it had the lion's share of software support.
