Files self-destruct when stolen

I have taken/stolen a lot of photo from my brother's hard drive(10 gb worth)
This is the second time the whole files disappear from my computer for no apparent reason.
Is it possible he install some software to make the file self-destruct when stolen?
p.s. those are photos of our childhood, the pets we had, our family, his college life and a bunch of animals and plants
