Hi /g/, for a long time now I have been working on a trading system which utilizes webscrapping stock prices at up to 1-sec timeframe and implemented a lot since then in R and Python. Still I would like to keep an eye on all the code and programs running and possibly the automated trades the system is executing. I would like to have 3-4 monitors with minimum Full-HD resolution in portrait mode.
I know I need a lot of CPU-power and memory for running R and Python multiple times at high-frequency, all the machines I would like to buy (up to $2k budget just for the machine) come with fancy GPUs like the 980GTX but that feels like overkill. I don't play games at all but I understand that one needs a card with enough DVI/HDMI slots for 4 monitors, so what approximate class of Graphics cards would you recommend?
Pic related, that is how it would look like approximately.

Have you considered a single large format display instead? A single 40" 3840x2160 provides a visual area and resolution similar to 3 vertically orientated 23" 1080p displays.
Finding a GPU that can drive a single 4k display, or a 4k display + a pair of smaller displays could be much easier.

This is a bad idea, window management is bad on just one screen.

This is /g/, UNIX window managers are well suited to dealing with large screens. I use a Gnome 3 extension that gives me a number of options for laying applications on a grid.
Most commonly I simply divide the screen in two so a pair of 1920x2160 windows, or a single 1920x2160 window with a pair of 1920x1080 windows.

you can lose as much money with just one monitor.

OP here: I prefer to keep things physically separated, I worked with 4 monitors in a trading internship before back in college. I don't think I would feel comfortable with a giant screen instead. If 4 is not possible (or very hard with 1 card), would 3 be super easy with pretty much every card?
3 would probably also do, what would I need to pull 3 monitors, again no games, just simple stuff. Is pretty much any card with 3xDVI enough?

Scaling problem with single 4k screen can be solved with TV maybe?
