I put all my volatile data, including my root, tmp, browser cache and swap on my cheapo sandisk SSD.
I also enableddefaults, relatime, discardin order to perform TRIM every time the OS decides to write caches to disk.
How does that make you feel?

I already use a RAMdisk for volatile data, but I have programs automatically load themselves onto this RAMdisk when needed.

He isn't even aware that the page cache exists does exactly that.
The only difference is that the page cache is more efficient and transparent at doing it's job and can be freed when it's actually needed by programs, but his RAMdisk can not be, causing programs to fail when allocating memory.
