Not going to either, though I do recommend The Art of Exploitation by Jon Erickson. Teaches you C from a hacker's perspective, as well as networking and cryptography. Great book.

I'm reading this right now. It's an interesting book. However it's kind of lame how you can't really do anything with the beginner level knowledge you get from the book. Opposed to when you read a beginning programming book you can work on a small project or something by the end of it. It's still very interesting though
