DVDISASTER: what is this thing about images, on the manual? I want to read DVDs, why do I need to configure such a thing as image size?
For some reason I get 100% package loss every time I try to ping twitch.tv. Because of that whenever I use livestreamer+mpv to stream twitch streams mpv takes fucking minutes to start. Anyone know what might be going on?
It's not my internet connection and I can browse twitch.tv just fine with my internet browser. If I got 100% package loss shouldn't I not be able to even connect with it with the browser as well?

How much would cpu temps be affected by twisting the CPU cooler?
Simply how it was originally installed, the CPU cooler was crooked, and without even thinking about it, I tried twisting it into position without really thinking about the thermal paste. I didn't move it much, but all the same, I'm paranoid about the temps and I don't have much of a base reading to work with.

At University studying Computer Science. Starting to get the feeling I've fallen for the Computer Science meme, and the whole University meme as a whole.
If I devoted three years of my time to learning a skill myself I feel I would learn more about problem solving, self learning, adapting, working efficiently, holding responsibility - traits many startups are looking for.
Where as if I continue to go to University I get the piece of paper (degree) that all big businesses are looking for but don't have any experience to actually get me decent placement anywhere.

University is the time to find out what you really want to do and three years is an incredibly short amount of time. Are you sure you want to get straight to the workforce after your degree? If you find programming and math easy, maybe you'd rather go into research (talk to your professors who run/work in a lab).

It's hard to explain the noise. It's almost like a short beep following by a click and then the drive spins up. No abnormal noises once the drive is spinning.
I'm mostly noticing the slowdown when I open my pictures folder, but I'm thinking it may just be the thumbnail cache rebuilding or something since I'm booting into linux now on a regular basis as well.

The Uni meme (in my opinion) is idea that you MUST have a Uni degree before I can get any sort of decent job. Every day I spend at Uni is money I have to pay back as well. If all I'm doing is spending that money to sit in class and wonder why I'm even doing this and being unhappy, stressed in the process then it's a pretty shit investment in my opinion.
I'm pretty much spending money to make myself unhappy which is the opposite of how things go. I have literally no idea what interests me and just sort of chose CS because I liked working with computers and that's like 70% of what I've done through my life.
Just in general I feel like I haven't experienced enough in life to justify spending a shit load of money and three+ years of my time focusing on that one thing. When I try to run old games in full screen in a 4:3 resolution, they're still still stretched to 16:9 on my primary monitor

I don't know who fed you that crap. I've been running at 1440p on a 6990 (often without crossfire, so effectively a 6970) since 2011. Your card is much higher end, and in the worst circumstances (some shit optimized or nvidia gimped game on ultra) you can set the game's output resolution to 1080p anyway.
You have no good reason other than cost to buy a 1080p monitor. Especially if you're trying to "future proof", you will regret getting anything below 1440p (consider 1600p as well).

The problem is though, they never seem to be in sync. If I get a time of say "02:34:800" in Avidemux and then enter that same time into XMedia and encode a WebM, it won't start in the right place.

Requesting some VLC help. I'll try to detail specifically what I'm looking for:
When I open a VLC video, it opens at a standard size with the standard UI showing. What I prefer to do is push CTRL+H, which removes the UI, and then I manually resize the window to a size I prefer, then "Always On Top". Think of it now being a Picture-In-Picture setup, where the video is playing in a small window in a corner, and I'm free to do whatever else I wish while still being able to watch the video. (side note: if only VLC could have a borderless window mode....) Anyway, when I'm done, I close the video and go about my life.
The issue I'm having is when I open a video again, it doesn't keep the resize aspect I created. I have to CTRL+H and manually resize it again. Every time, every video/playlist.
I'm thinking this is a setting I can check/uncheck, because I used to not have this issue. Used to be, when I opened a video, it kept the exact resize aspect I picked before, no matter what video/playlist I chose. I never had to resize. Now I have to every time.
I know this is a super specific issue, but does anyone have any suggestions? I just want it back to how it used to be: the VLC window always being the same size video from how it was when the last video was played.

Here's my question: what places a load on the system RAM bandwidth in video games? How could a game potentially bottleneck a system due to insufficient system RAM bandwidth.
I'm a fucking moron who bought a cheap 1080p monitor that only has 1 VGA port, and not DVI or anything else. I can only use it with a VGA to DVI adapter.
Whenever I would use my old GPU (a GPU that was basically powered without connecting the PSU to it) I would get flickering (visible transparent horizontal lines) on the screen but only when playing games with vsync off and if framerate was super high (200-400).
I'm using a much more powerful GPU now (2 6pin connectors needed) and the same flickering still occurs but now, the text gets blurry and fuzzy when the GPU usage is high, even in windows.
What's the cause of this and what can I do to fix it?

Ive got an MSI Power Edition GTX 660ti and I'm in the process of overclocking it.
Without increasing the voltage, the card is stable at +60MHz core clock and +500MHz memory clock, and if I increase the core clock further, it doesn't produce any artifacts in the benchmark program I'm using, but it causes my GPU driver to crash.
I'm not really that worried about pushing the card much further, I sold my newer card and just living with this one until AMD/Nvidia put new cards out, but I've looked at what people have gotten out of the same card and it's a decent amount higher than what I'm getting. I'd increase the voltage and push it a bit further, but I don't think that would be a remedy to the software crashing. Any thoughts?

As for you question, I don't know much about Graphics theory and vidyas, but, The GPU is there mainly for calculating/storing the pixels that will appear on your screen, and other stuff such as antialiasing.
Simply to lighten the load on the CPU, and GPUs don't always have enough VRAM, so they need to use the systems RAM.
In a video game, there's much more than the graphics happening, and the CPU's busy too.
SO both the CPU and GPU need access to the Systems RAM. Now, there's also a lot of the memory space allocated to the drivers, and OS, so the everything can still function.
