Solid endlinks flaring out.
While it's 48mm the lugs are so beefy it wears bigger and looks silly on <6.8ish" wrists.

The endlinks are curved though, wouldn't really make it seem that large. It being 39mm in diameter and 48mm lug to lug are more important.

For 500$ what should I go with?
ETA 2824-2 or 6R15?

Honestly, and I'm normally an incorrigible Seiko shill, but I would probably take an ETA 2824-2 over a 6r15c at that price point if I could find it cased in a watch I actually liked.

Problem is any decent ETA 2824-2 powered watches I've seen are well above that price point.

It's basically Steinhart vs SARB/SARX series for me

I would SARB then, but I'm not into homages and particularly not oversized homages, and most particularly not submariner homages.

Just not to my taste, but from what I've seen and read the quality seems fine for the price.

This is a curious point. I really like how cool some mechanicals are, especially ones where you can see the insides and how cool the engineering is. Analog gears moving tend to bother the shit out of me though with the noise.

I also prefer the functionality of a Pebble over a simple analog watch.

Doesn't mean mechanicals aren't super interesting though.

Technology is not only about functionality. Mechanical watches are technology for the sake of technology at this point. The appeal of a mechanical watch is in the movement, and having an autonomous machine on your wrist. For people on /g/, aesthetics are usually second.

Watch bloggers have lately finally figured out what a macro lens is, but they have yet to figure out what a microfiber cloth is. Every goddamn high res watch shot on those blogs is always full of dust and lint and smudges and shit, I guess I'm the only one autistic enough to notice. I know it's incredibly tedious to actually fix up macro product shots completely perfectly and I usually halfass it too, but I'm also not running a professional looking shilling website that gets thousands of views.

Is the Steinhart Racetimer too much a blatant copy?
>>
>>53602117
Not so much a blatant copy as is it a shitty copy that missed the mark. While the Tudor has a really unique and sporty look (sort of this preppy retro that reminds be of 70s tennis and very short basketball shorts), it is also pretty clean and legible, partly because it uses a rotating bezel to work as an hour indicator for the chronograph, making it only a 2 subdial chrono but has chrono seconds, minutes and hours.

Meanwhile the steinhart made it look much more gadgety and busy. They took the design of a 3k Tudor, changed a bunch of things, and made what looks to be a 350 dollar watch and then they charge 1k for it.

Servicing vintage chronographs typically runs $250+ USD, the bigger issue is to investigate that specific movement and understand if it has any known weaknesses, what they are, and how expensive to fix.

Plus how easy and expensive it will be to source donor movements for parts.

More or less. It's up to your personal preference, a lot of mechanical enthusiasts do so because of the novelty of an entirely gear-and-spring device.

I personally wear an autoquartz (pic related): accuracy of a quartz movement combined with the convenience of a battery free system.

There's a definite appeal to mechanicals, especially given the proliferation of smartphones, so you'll always have an accurate clock on hand.

10s/y is high end quartz. But yeah. Mechanicals aren't about accuracy (besides those that are about the highest possible accuracy within mechanicals), they're about being damn neat. A tiny machine made mainly out of gears with like 99.99997% accuracy in displaying time you wear on your wrist feels different to something electronic. Not all technology is electronic. >>
>>53604974
When it comes to precision, you're right. Now there are other factors.

Mostly, the key aspect is that the highest quality, best looking watches you can get are mostly mechanicals. Because a mechanical movement is more expensive than quartz, it makes sense to raise the quality bar as opposed to quartz. Plus mechafags are also the biggest buyers of expensive watches, and they want nothing else than mechanicals. Normies rarely put over $500 in a watch anyway, so there's no reason to make high quality, good looking quartz, and as such the selection is really small.

Now there's a good deal of irony, those people they generally claim to appreciate watchmaking and technology, but remain hermetic to quartz technology, they claim they appreciate quality and make fun of /fa/ggots buying fashion watches whose only purpose is to look good, but then buy watches with less accurate, less reliable movements despite being way more expensive, and whose only purpose in the end is to look good. As long as it doesn't have a battery.

Then there's the roleplaying surrounding watches: watchfags generally like a certain watch because their role model had one, or because it helps them identify to a moment in history or category of people which they don't belong to, and most of those watches happen to be mechanicals. They wear those watches because of what it says about them, even though most people actually don't get it. It's basically an elaborate form of cosplaying.

Now there are other reasons, but these are the main ones you'll run into, whether here or elsewhere.
>>
>>53605464

>they claim they appreciate quality and make fun of /fa/ggots buying fashion watches whose only purpose is to look good, but then buy watches with less accurate, less reliable movements despite being way more expensive

We shit on /fa/ggots for paying 100$+ for stuff like MVMT and Daniel wellingtons, which are cheap 5~10$ chink watches that were marked up in price to allure people who don't know better to buy them. Let's not forget they come with questionable QC, crap quality and the cheapest quartz movements possible. (Which sometimes have worse accuracy then mechs, but that might need more a bit more digging into it)

And also the regular gaudy shit looking Fossil/Swatch/Etc that's literal bait tier.

You're making this up on the spot because you don't know what "digit" in digital refers to.

>>53610862
>I find this is a better definition
That first definition refers to a signal. Like a digital signal, it does not refer to a display using digits or not using digits.
>>
>>53610862
Digital as in digits which are numbers. Digital electronics are called that because they operate on two numbers, 0 and 1 instead of fuzzy values like analog electronics. A digital watch shows numbers instead of a clock face, it doesn't matter if it's electronic or not.

Is it hard to make amphibian look like this? Stock one looks really ugly.

That model in the pic looks liky any chinese, classic themed ebay watch with an open heart.

Raping a dial with a hole, to show some gears is the watch companies desperate try to grab any attention from a watch pleb.

And the rest of their watches is probably too overpriced for the boring design.

Changing the bezel and insert is piss easy.

Though, you'd need to pain the hands to make them look like this.

What model is this? It has a very decent blue color that looks like it won't peel after 3 years.

That's not the first watch in space either.

It's not hard.

It's just the normal hands painted orange. Pretty sure they were not taken off for this mod.
