What are decent laptop brands? Pretty sure Dell is shit and Asus is top (in my experience) but I'm trying to find a laptop for preferably under $600, and so far the best I've found is some Toshiba from Staples.

Used thinkpads are some the best bang for your buck tbqhwyf

Toshiba is shit, Asus is decent (but the quality started to decline recently), Lenovo is good enough, can't say anything about Acer, HP is good only if you want to spend more money for the higher end class (same applies to Dell).

In conclusion get a Thinkpad or a Clevo/Sager/XMG/Eurocom laptop.

So Lenovo is pretty good? How about this?

If 17 inch isn't too big looks ok .If you plan for graphics intensive tasks it will be shit. Also low-end models have an absolutely awful touchpad.

My main plan is school work, probably some light CAD involved (just inventor, and nothing super complicated, I have a workstation for the bulk of my work) and maybe some gaming (mainly Warthunder and EVE, maybe some KSP)

I have a HP-2000 notebook with the E1-1200 APU (1.4 GHz) and it basically did all of that fairly well, but its 4 years old now.
>>
>>53594411
Dells been pretty good for the past few years, especially with the XPS line, which is probably the best line of laptops available today.

Asus is definitely very good if you're looking for a nicely priced, well made machine. Definitely top tear.
>>
>>53594411
What was the last time you bought a laptop?

Anyways Dell and Acer are great now, Lenovo (and thus the thinkpads) is rubish.

Asus is not what is was 5 years ago, its decent. hp is still a joke; toshiba is as unappealing as ever. Sony is dead,

Today I would probably go for a Dell, just for the linux support alone.
>>
In general, Business/Premium model or bust. So T/W/X for Lenovo, Latitude 7000/XPS for Dell, etc...
>>
>>53594411
Dell has gotten better since their fall from grace in my opinion. Asus also makes good laptops for sure. Just avoid acer at all cost and look at online reviews and you should be good.
>>
>>53594862
Why would you ever want an unwieldy 17" laptop. A 15 inch one should be more than enough.

>17.3
>1600x900
lmao

>>53595213
Well, its a nice size. And I haven't seen any with higher resolution inside what I want to buy.
>>
>>53595615
just get a gayman machine (non-U) with 1920x1080 senpai, it'll be fit for intense workloads but just make sure to read the reviews to check for throttling/housefire concerns lel
>>
>>53595615
>It's a nice size
I am sure that you'll change your opinion as soon as you'll have to lug that thing around with you. You should really go to a shop and look at how massive a 17" laptop actually is.
>>
How good are Dell laptops?

Saw this one and got interested on it.
https://www.amazon.com.mx/dp/B016KHLN34/

Looks really good for the price as how jewish laptops prices are here.
>>
Regardless of the brand, avoid the consumer lines at all cost. Dell, HP, and Lenovo all make excellent enterprise laptops, which can be had for a great price used on eBay.
>>
>>53596255
>HP
Ha, enjoy your literal housefires.
Not even memeing.

I went to the store and it's not that bad. The HP2000 I have is a 15", it doesn't feel very big or sturdy, but the G70-80 felt pretty nice, and they have an open box model for like $30 off.

Just give me a decent build quality and a modern <12" netbook that has an unlocked bios please
>>
Is the origin eon15-x any good
>>
>>53597067
Acer CB3-111 Chromebook

flash it, seabios it, install gentoo, upgrade SSD if you want

fucking indestructible little thing, 11" screen, 8-9 hour battery life on max usage, only good celeron (which is saying alot, but its a 2.6ghz dual core and runs autoad 2015 decently in 2D)
only downside is the 16gb of storage, but the ssd upgrade takes like 10 minutes max

With that budget EVERY laptop blows cocks, so it doesn't matter to much. Just grab one with an IPS 1080p screen.
>>
What is linux support for laptop in generals, also the touch screen support ?
>>
>>53597255

Depends on the brand. Linux support for thinkpads is exceptional.

>>53597187

For 400 dollars, you can buy an excellent thinkpad that can handle anything you throw at it."

I heard ThinkPads were bad?

There is alot of nostalgia for the older thinkpads, which were built like tanks. The current "muh thinness" movement doesn't allow for the same build quality. They still have magnesium roll cages, spill proof keyboards, etc.

Stick with the business class models X, T, and W. The other models aren't built as well. They're basically consumer-grade laptops with the thinkpad logo.

There are business class computers by Dell and HP that are great too. Head over to the thinkpad general and they'll point you in the right direction based on your budget.
