The one that fits your particular needs better.

How old is your computer where the bloat makes that much of a difference?

in the end they are the same. DE is just a WM with some basic programs and utilities pre-installed.
so wich is better? it depends on how much time you want to spend on installing software. in my opinion WMs are better, because i like the idea of choosing myself right off the beginning wich programs i want to use.
If you want something that has some basic stuff and you dont really even want to think about it, go with a nice DE. otherwise settle down for a WM and spend a few moments making your system your own.

you guys remember the one guy on /b/ who had listened to it on itunes like 60 000 times
>>
>>53591043
People buy i5 procs, 16 gb ram, and then complain a DE is bloat as it consumes 1% processor idling and 600 MB ram. Fucking idiots.
>>
WM, because no DE will ever achieve the goal of being as easy to use and well designed as OS X out of the box. You will waste your life ricing either way. Might as well rice the simple way instead of have your rice broken by the next gnome release or struggle to fix an issue in a complicated object-message-passing bloatfest.

That's a rather subjective term.

How easy is that to set up? I like some of the KDE features but it's slow AF. Openbox is nice.

Install Openbox on top of KDE. Re-login, you'll find this option:

KDE/Openbox.

Try not to use "change look and feel" or any other KDE tweak tools much.

You can use OBconf and change color and icons of KDE windows but be careful

It's as easy as killing desktop and the wm and starting openbox in its place. Quite simple, it's just a google search away my friend.
