Never understood why apt was so verbose.
Compare the output from a system upgrade on apt to any other package management system.
apt-get update spits out over 100 lines, most of them not formatted to be on a small window.
dpkg is not the worst system in the world, but you could make a good interface for it.
pacman is only better because of the interface.
