Apple fags really will defend anything, huh?

my $1000 shure headphones are now obsolete, Apple did me a favor, I now know the error of my ways, the future is 128bitrate itunes over an adapter through my charging port converting my analog into digital back into digital through a made in china onboard sound adapter which is low bandwidth.

It's a simple and fully functional system, why anyone would change it ? Apple wille certainly do it just for making more money, as usual...
>>
>>53586898
>needing an adapter for everything
literally just for headphones, and presumably this would give manufacturers the kick in the ass they need to make wireless headphones less shitty. if apple ships wireless headphones with the new iPhone, 70% of its consumers would never have need for a 3.5mm jack ever again.
>>
>>53586917
Come on....
>>
>>53586895
Fuck you. Maybe I want to plug in my headphones without carrying around a $15 cable. What's the God damn point? Phone is thinner so apple uses less material and battery to fuck you? Now you have to buy battery case! They even designed it to work better with better case. They will milk you fucker.

They're not problems that cannot be overcome, nor is it a thing about money.

They're just all cons compared to no pro's. Don't come with audio quality, that's only theoretically true. We all know that no phone has "great" audio quality.

>>53586917
Wireless headphones are shitty by design. They'll never surpass proper headphones with a proper cable.

yes, that's why I said it might give manufacturers a kick in the ass to make them less shitty. are you agreeing with me in some really unclear, stupid way?

>They'll never surpass proper headphones with a proper cable.
1) what dimensions are you considering?
2) what's a "proper" cable and how does it differ from an improper one?
3) do you think more than 5% of people with iPhones are using "proper cables" to listen to shit they stream from spotify?
4) see above about "kick in the ass"
>>
>>53586903
The thing is I think this is the most shameless money making move Apple has pulled. Some people compare this to them removing the DVD drive but I don't think it's the same thing. The DVD drive was something that was already seeing less and less usage. People were primarily using flash storage at that point for most things and cloud storage was starting to really take off with consumers.

Removing the 3.5mm jack for literally no reason (no, thickness isn't why, it would still be possible to keep the jack in a 6mm phone) other than forcing consumers to buy Bluetooth headphones or proprietary Lightning headphones is an anti-consumer move. There is no way around it.

I think one of the reasons Apple is doing this is because there is concern and speculation that iPhone sales might finally start to slow down, which will cause investor panic if they don't break another sales record considering iPhones bring in the vast majority of Apple's revenue. Creating a new stream of revenue from a new wave of amazing wireless Beats headphones and then collecting those sweet Lightning licensing royalties for Lightning headphones will bring in some sweet cash for Apple.

Just my thoughts anyway.

I'm pretty sure the iPhone having no headphone jack is rather distinctive. Says nothing about it being good though.

well what do you know about headphones? pretty sure apple knows what they're doing.
>>
>>53587029
>The DVD drive was ... seeing less ... usage
no. you must have not been here when the MBA was announced, but /g/ had the biggest autism tantrum it had ever had since it stopped being about guro. netflix had only started its streaming service the previous year, and it was by no means clear that it would be a big deal. everyone was using DVDs for movies.

apple even had this insane, contrived plan for getting around the lack of a disc, that basically involved making the optical drive sharable over a network. and then they released the "superdrive". it was a fucking mess.

headphone jacks are arguably more established, but it doesn't feel that much more disruptive than the shitfit /g/ threw in 2008.

There's literally no reason to modify the camera. It was on par with the S7 which came out this year and it had a noticeably smaller bump than this one.

I know a lot about headphones
I've made cheap 5$ Chinese headphones bluetooth by combining them and a mono BT earpiece, I've made insanely good audio from just an 8 bit ADC and an 8 bit microcontroller, I've extended high quality headphones by several terns of feet with thick copper wire and homemade shielding to extend their length.
I have even made my own shitty headphones with speakers from toys and metal wires

>>53587282
Bluetooth audio quality is a fucking joke when compared to wired audio. They cannot be compared, wired audio quality is awesome because it doesn't have to much loss.
In Bluetooth audio your phone has to transmit Bluetooth packets and retransmit them in case the headphones don't receive them, that takes battery life. And battery consumption dependent upon the distance between your phone and headphones is fucking retarded
>>
>>53587308
you're overestimating the amount to which people will observe audio quality, but this is normal for audiophiles who are out of touch with the rest of the world.

the vast majority of iphone consumers are exclusively listening to mp3s from itunes and streamed audio from spotify or something like that. are you seriously going to try to sell people on the horse shit claim that they'll be able to tell the difference between wired and wireless when listening to 192kbps audio streamed from spotify?
>>
>>53587375
Yes because with wireless headphones it doesn't matter what quality the source is, you can fucking hear static constantly.

I would love if wireless headphones sucked less. I have some bluetooth headphones and they're really convenient. No cable in the way at work, not tethered to the computer, move convenient for walking around. But pairing still blows, battery life is less than infinite, and they're kinda big. My friend had bluetooth earbuds and they were pretty cool but shit battery life. God tier for phones would be bluetooth with a flat wire and flexible solar panel and some standard replaceable earbud/driver portion.

you seem to be honing in on all the most inconsequential shit, which might be because you're an audiophile or something else out of touch with reality.

iphone customers

brace yourself

don't care about the audio quality you're talking about.

wired audio can provide more data than current bluetooth spec, but the technology exists to satisfy a huge proportion of consumers with wireless.

yes, it'll be one more thing to charge, and yes the technology isn't really fully there yet, but this is exactly the half-baked state that the MBA was in when that got announced and they introduced their first new laptop without an optical drive. >>

>>
>>53587480
if apple drops the 3.5mm port, there's no going back. the 7S won't reintroduce it. so you're either going to get a 7 and find a way to make it work for you, or you're going to leave the ecosystem and go android.

so just wait till the 7 comes out and then buy the best android device if you don't like the setup apple came up with.

it's also unlikely that apple will just push generic old BT audio - they'll make up some profoundly bullshit magical fairy dust specification that only Apple devices conform to and then tell everyone about how it's the best thing since steve jobs farted on sliced bread. and it might be marginally better than bluetooth for audio in some very specific contexts, but on the whole it'll be a wash (if that).

But the price is too steep. I have seen the camera comparison between the Mi5 and the S7, the S7 camera performs way better than the Mi5. It's not even a competition.

Now, I think I'll just get the Redmi Note 3 Pro instead. Then get a better portable camera.

>>53587498
we don't even have an announcement from apple that they're dropping 3.5mm jacks yet, so asking me to predict how you'll charge this shit is stupid for 2 reasons.

the guess with almost no thought about this is that it'll either have a pass-through OR it'll be like the apple pencil, where you essentially had to charge the device, then the peripheral.

apple's position in that case would be "hey, here's an idea: don't let all your fucking devices die on you at the same time and you won't have this problem".

i'm not trying to defend apple here. i'm just trying to imagine what they might do without pretending to be outraged about shit that barely affects my overall quality of life.

Have you tried the Philips SHB5800? I'm using them (Christmas present; I wasn't very fond of the idea of bluetooth earbuds) and they're pretty darn good. Battery life is okay: 6 hours playing, charges in no time, and they're pretty comfortable.
>>
>>53587703
not the guy you're replying to, but
>>Needing to carry a bulky adapter to be able to use headphones with your phone
no. this is needing to carry a bulky adapter to be able to charge your headphones and your phone at the same time.

and it's increasingly difficult to imagine a scenario where you're carrying the USB cables and AC adapter (or your laptop) and yet you can't fit an adapter roughly that size (or smaller) anywhere.

i want to emphasize that i'm not in resounding favor of this plan, but it seems like the one they're going to go with, and it's hardly as bad as you're making it out to be. if you need to exaggerate how problematic this setup is, then you only make it seem like you're making a mountain out of a mole hill to everyone else.

so get some perspective and chill out. and bear in mind that we don't know if any of this is even true. there's a lot of rumor and no official announcement.
