on Arch distros, you get a choice of 4 visualizers...on Debian based distros, you only get 2 to choose from ...you could try opening up nano .ncmpcpp/config in your terminal and change visualizer_type = "ellipse" and see if that works...if not, change it back to wave or spectrum.
