Linux, also because installing libraries and stuff is way easier and running local dev servers for stuff is more comfy.

windows is horrible for programming. you have shitty tools to work with and even when there's windows support it's usually shitty. it's like the opposite of gaming.

linux is great, osx seems to be very popular among programmers too. i don't know which is better because i've only used linux.
>>
>>53577829
Yeah, only web devs use libraries.
Wut?
>>
>>53577890
I did customer support for a short period for a streaming site. I noticed the head devs would use Apples but all their code monkeys used Ubuntu. They had one windows PC with vista to test things.
>>
>>53577944
u gotta keep testing on that fucking acient piece of shit that is IE
>>
>>53577944
probably because macpro's are expensive as fuck and they don't want to purchase those for monkeys. i know that many companies provide their employees with macpro's only. facebook for example.

I know this is a troll, but just in case some uneducated person is reading-

QT is available on all systems and can even be used for portable apps.
>Compilers and editors
VS is provably significantly worse in time and speed.
Most editors are cross platform.
>Virus programming
The most insecure platform is the best platform for exploits? No shit.
>Probably revenue
Have you heard of OSX before? I just got my boss to pay $20 for Alfred just because I wanted to bind keys to launching a new terminal window.

>StackOverflow's 2016 developer survey has OS X beating Linux and Windows as top developer OS

https://stackoverflow.com/research/developer-survey-2016

>Chrys Bader, Product Manager, Google
>I was a die-hard PC user my entire life, until about 2 years ago.
>The reason I switched was simple: The best software for development existed on OS X. The best developers were on Macs, so they built the best tools on Macs for Macs. Slowly everyone started to switch over to OS X because it was where all of the best software was. The different software started to integrate with each other, and the network of developers and tools became even stronger. It's a self-perpetuating situation.

>Why do security professionals choose Macs?
>What does the Mac OS X offer that it has been recently attracting users with IT security focus?

>>53578228
Except it is not at all Linux. OSX is a based on Darwin, a unix-like based on BSD. Linux is a unix-like developed independently of unixes.
That said, OSX is a pretty excellent environment.

Really, the best environment depends on your needs. If you need customizability and have time, Linux is great; OSX is good for getting started quickly and easy access to tools. If you need to conform to an outdated and shitty office standard, Windows.

Personally I use TempleOS exclusively. Any connectivity I need is handled by my phone.

Linus said various times what Linux is, a kernel.
He created Linux, went through every single line of code, it would be simply retarded of him to call X thing a Y, even worse, he created X, so being confused about what it is is simply autistic.
>>
>>53578751
He calls it both kernel and operating system.
>>
>>53577447

Visual Studio is on linux u faggots have no reason to use windows beyond fucking gayming.
>>
>>53578307
well for some environments windows is better, for example if you need windows shit or you're doing .NET for some reason. but for most tech you will be much better off with linux.
>>
>>53578475
>Windows split into 5 groups
Windows absolutely won that survey, but that doesn't mean shit. Windows will always dominate by sheer amount of users. That doesn't mean they made the choice to use Windows, it was already installed on their computer. What matters is the comparison of percentage of developers using System A vs percentage of normal users using System A.

>OSX - 20% dev market vs 10% consumer market
>Linux - 20% dev vs 1% consumer
>Windows - 60% dev vs 89% consumer

So a weight adjusted ranking is:

1. Linux - 20x market share amongst devs
2. OSX - 2x market share amongst devs
3. Windows 0.66x market share amongst devs

just fucking face it kiddo... every big tech company is almost all macs. Google, Facebook, Twitter, etc etc.. they're all Mac.
>>
>>53579784
I love Macs though. They are wonderful computers with wonderful hardware (throttling notwithstanding). The interpretation of that data is just wrong.

FULL DISCLOSURE I DO USE LINUX BECAUSE I AM POOR HOWEVER I DO ENJOY ITS EASE OF USE FOR PROGRAMMING TASKS OVER OSX AND WINDOWS.

OS X or Linux. They both have native ssh support, can both support x forwarding, both have vim, and can run valgrind.

windows is pretty shitty unless you absolutely need visual Studio and don't want to be able to have a decent shell.
>>
I don't hate OSX but I like my linoox with i3wm for programming.
I'm not at ease with windows though and I mostly code in vim.
