Because, why would they give their resources for free like that. They are probably logging all your data. The same way people set up WiFi hotspots that monitor all packets sent through it.

None. Your VPN logs your information and encrypted data can usually be decrypted easily. If not, they'll keep that data to experiment with and decrypt it eventually.
If you want to maintain your privacy, then disconnect your Internet, drive old cars, use flip phones with paycards, use old TVs, and make sure your window shades are in good shape.
