I agree, but there are so many cheaper options now.
>>
>>53573345
Not all x2's and x3's had usable 3rd/4th cores.

It was entirely a gamble-- the reason why they were disabled in the first place is because the dies failed to pass testing, then put in the bin to be sold as x2's or x3's.

holy fuck, this card for 220$ new w/ DiRT Rally promo on Newegg.

I had my worries buying it, but I absolutely don't regret it. zero temp issues with relatively quiet sound, hovering around 60 degrees Celsius during gameplay, able to run games at 2560x1600 (16:10) and it looks beautiful.
>>
>>53573365
Bait.
>>
>>53573394
There are? I only remember some 1080p Asus for 700 bucks or something.

Then again, until Windows steps up their trackpad game or Chrome OS becomes an actual OS, there is nothing else worth getting that doesn't have too many compromises IMO.

>>53573432
Dunno, from my tries with 3 different ones, it always went fine, although the overclocking was limited to 3-3,2Ghz, while most real x4 Phenoms could hit 3.4 and more if I remember right.

The reason for disabling is not always failing testing, cheaper stuff just sells better and if the market needs more x3, it'd be more profitable to gimp x4's instead of bringing the price down. Shit, some board manufacturers advertised core unlocking.

'Course you don't. You don't need a $1200 machine at all. A $250 Chromebook would serve your purposes just as well.
>>
>>53573588
Then there would be a problem of a good screen, extra space, and Google Docs being shit. Even Libre Office is better.
>>
i have zero regrets with all of the tech i've bought.
that's because i have tourette's and spent months and months researching and planning what to buy because i have autism about money.
>>
>>53573647
Planning can only get one so far. Amazon reviews are marketing.
Reviewers products are changed to lower quality parts after good reviews.
More importantly no one will ever love you.
>>
>>53573639
>Google Docs being shit
this so much

opening an empty google doc/sheet pushes that tab's process's memory requirements to 200MB+, even though google docs/sheets aren't even as capable as word 95/excel 95. You could literally spin up an entire VM running Windows 95 or System 7.5 and open long-ass documents with Office 95 apps and STILL be using less than a third as much memory as an empty google doc/sheet does, and it'll probably run faster to boot. how the fuck is that even remotely close to acceptable?
>>
>>53573639
>good screen
Some Chromebooks have great screens. Maybe you'll need to spend more than $250 to get a good display, but you won't have to spend $1200.

>extra space
What are you talking about? Storage? You just said it's for web browsing and office tasks. Storage doesn't matter.

And if you need storage, most Chromebooks have SD card slots (something else you won't find on a Macintosh.)

>Google Docs
Are you too retarded to install Linux? Probably, since you're a Macfag.

No one even vaguely competent runs ChromeOS on a Chromebook.
>>
>>53573518
My brethren. 290triX for £220 last year, the week before 3.5gate ballooned the prices. Taken me this long to get a 1440p screen as well which I will stick with for years now.

>>53573552
I wasn't being specific for cheaper sorry. All these fanless netbooks and tablets+keyboard docks are floating around now. But the only direct competitor I know is the asus you're right, but trackpads are never an excuse, they're shit no matter the operating system.

Name some. The only one I know above 1080p/16:9 cancer is Pixel, which is about 1k for shitty 64GB storage.

>You just said it's for web browsing and office tasks.
I'd say listening to music is quite basic too, can't do that with 64GB, which is smaller than most phones have. Upgrading SSD would cost money and time.

>SD card slots
Thanks but this is 2016.

>Are you too retarded to install Linux?
Again extra time waste to install and their trackpad drivers are mediocre at best.

Given how Pixel is their flagship laptop, "most" would mean most flagship phones. They either have a 128gb version or at least micro SD. (the difference is not as grave as with laptops because phone memory speed is already ass)

Got a free 960GTX last year when my 660Ti died
Plays new games easily on high and put a total of $600 into it iirc, not a single problem with it ever. Also I only had to buy a cheap secondhand graphics card and I had re-made my old C2D desktop again which became my server.

two extra 1080p screens and $100 mount for 3, emulating at 5760 x 1080 makes /vr/ get all frustrated and come up with fake reasons why emulators suck, fucking great to post that every time.

Samsung galaxy S3, chose to wait a week to switch over from old flip phone to root, was scary at first when the first few roms KP'd every 20 minutes but been on an AOKP one for years and it's been flawless and usb otg fucking rocks

I have a first-gen Moto G which has lasted me two years now and it's still going strong. Most of it is, at least. The headphone jack is on its way out. Like this anon says. P2 stuff was actually quite good and would go toe to toe with intel stuff at a cheap price point. When I built my first PC, the 3570k was still new. The salesman managed to push the FX-4100 on me in place of the Phenom 2 x4 980 that was the same price. I was sincerely disappointed. A first gen FX at 4.5ghz was equivalent to a P2 at 3.9ghz.
>>
>>53576724
yup in the side is a full SD card slot. The Samsung EVO 32gb I got came with a standard SD adapter. Plugged in, ChromeOS detected it instantly. Same with the 32gb USB 3.0 stick I got. Only complaint about the laptop thus far is the USB 3.0 slot is VERY tight. I mean I'm all for tight slots, but I was afraid I'd break it.
>>
>>53576722
I'm not sure what the exact numbers are but I got something like +600 MHz for memory and +250 MHz for base.

Holy fucking shit, nice. Afterburner shows +120 base and +350 memory for me. Didn't bother going further with memory but increasing base clock by a bit more produces artifacts. Guess you got a damn nice card.

Do you have any fan coil? Like when it goes from 2D to 3D mode?
>>
>>53576741
>>53576808
wait I'm an idiot. I thought it used SD cards the same way phones do lol

and yeah I have the first gen chromebook they were pretty nice.
>>
>>53576878
not that anon but maxwell is very picky about stability at certain temperatures. I have an EVGA gtx 980ti Classified that I got +75mhz on core / +650mhz on memory but the card was only stable under 70C.Great up to 69C and as soon as the card hit 70C under bench testing load at stock fan curve, instant artifacts.

Also when overclocking I use Precision X and force k-boost. Ramp fans up to 100% and see what you can get.

Keep in mind that Nvidia has BIOS level power target limiters so if the card you bought isn;t like a mega overclocking model, don't expect any top end over-voltage overclocks.
>>
>>53572798
Then you installed the stock wrong or your fans are blocked. I play witcher 3 on high and it only gets up to 60
>>
>>53576967
Temps are not a problem for sure, mine rarely even hits 60° with fans at 55% (after 4h of Witcher 3)

Though maybe power target limit is a reason, mine is capped at 108%.
>>
>>53577029
then yup, that's your problem. I know we're talking apples and oranges here but for reference, my 980ti classy has 100% power target and up to 121% on stock BIOS. 145% on OC BIOS. Maybe you have OC settings still locked down via MSI Afterburner or another OC utility?

While those speeds look nice on paper, you aren't going to notice any difference with a 850 evo in most applications. Unless you do heavy video rendering or other related stuff.

250GB is shit tier desu, I fill that shit within days. I'd much rather have a 1TB evo than only 250gb of really fast storage which I won't notice the difference off anyway.

I just got a 250gb Evo 850 as well and tried to connect it with a SATA-IDE adapter and the adapter melted. I have 3 disks connected to the same line of wires and they're all HDD's. Apparently SSDs use different voltages and people apparently cut the yellow wire on the molex cable on the adapter because the SSD uses a different voltage than the HDDs it seems.

I'm fucking going crazy wondering if the SSD is fried. I immediately shut off the power supply 5 seconds after turning the PC on. There was absolutely no smell on the SSD and the connecters hadn't melted or anything like that. Is it fine /g/? I have literally no way to tell. My laptop also needs an adapter for the SSD so I can't test it there either.
>>
>>53579026
*SATA to molex adapter
>>
>>53579026
Dawg a different voltage wouldn't cause the wire to melt like that. A huge current would need to be drawn to cause that, something shorted the fuck out. SSD may be broken. If it is broken it might be repairable though.
>>
>>53576968
It was good at first. But from Stock the CPU temperature went from 60 to 80 in year and a half
>>
>>53579164
Damn. I don't know what to say. Most of them had HDDs (the connectors on the HDDs melted as well) or had their motherboards fried or damaged (e.g. RAM problems.)

Once I replaced the the sata connector to one of the old HDDs (I used a cable from an old hdd for the ssd), everything works just fine. No component is damaged and the SSD looks pristine. The sata end of the adapter was fine also. Shit feeling when you can't know if you're newly-bought product is toast or not.

Anyway, thanks. Not sure what I'm going to do with the SSD now since I won't risk plugging it again even with a new adapter. A new system would cost me like $500 at least.

Foscam fi9828w

I needed a decent ip dome cam on a budget after I had my garage broken into about a year ago, got this one for €165 after returning a previous, much shittier cam. This thing is so far beyond anything else in it's price class it's ridiculous.

Motion detection that actually works, writes video and images to ftp both on intervals and on being triggered, send mail reports, all simultaneously. Actual 360 rotation, patrol mode, manual/automatic IR mode which, again, actually works. You can configure pretty much everything,. In terms of security, it supports HTTPS, TLS, IP blacklist / whitelist.

The dome is thick, hardened plastic, the upper dome and arm are both solid metal and the mount and cables are sturdy as fuck. It'd be easier bringing down the wall than taking this thing down. Even the stock app doesn't even suck, Android at least. A year after installing it the only thing I'd had to do is dust off the dome a little to stop the IR from reflecting, no rust, thing looks good as new.

It's the only product I own that I'd rate 10/10.

Things I don't regret:

- 2500k
- s27c750p
- 850 evo
- spinpoint f3 long before the floods when it was cheap and a lot of people were needlessly splurging for caviars
- Being conservative with RAM and going up to 16GB only when it was necessary and cheap
- D15
- ASUS's DCII 560ti
- Used Tri-X 290x for cheap
- The old all black Goliathus Control without the radioactive jizz
- Strider Plus 750W

Regrets:

- CM690II. Semi regret because it was the best my money could buy at the time. It does it's ventilation job well, but mother of shit, is it hard to clean. And you have to do it constantly.
- Scarlett 2i4. Works well when it works. Nonexistent QA. RMA'd three different units. First two had glaringly obvious build quality flaws. The third one simply blew up after attaching a condenser and turning on phantom power. Sent it for repairs this time, figuring the shop would do a better job than Focusrite. Even when it works like it does now, it always makes stupid loud popping noises when booting up or down -- and this is actually all according to specification. Idiotic device.
- P67AD3B3. Total bitch to overclock and issues with USB.
- CM Recon. Too big and wide.
- G100s. Left mouse button predictably croaked after 4 months. Right on time.
