Base install is like 2-3 hours, most of which is spent colonel configuring
To get it just how I like is a week or so but not nonstop work, just add what I need as I realize I need it.
ALSO Gentoo is dumb and kind of a pain to keep maintained. It's a good experience to sort of learn about the londrix ecosystem but it's only for NEETs for fulltime usage imo

I've used OpenSolaris/OpenIndiana on a laptop and it's pretty much shit. The theme feels cool and corporate at first but really it's just trash. That's kind of the story for everything there. Seems cool but is ultimately inferior to the alternatives

You're able to select which packages you want in general but you are hardly customizing anything. For that you'd want a source-based distribution like Gentoo. Arch packages are just as bloated as Ubuntu ones. They do strip debugging symbols which makes the binaries slightly smaller but they build in support for all the same shit.
Don't get me wrong, Arch is probably my favorite distribution but you really can't say it offers much in the way of entire OS customization. ABS PALES in comparison to the almighty portage.

Alright, I did it. I'm on testing.
Went from 1500 packages to 1800, and it fucked up half way like three times. I'm also getting some odd error messages after I type my decryption password at boot, but I'll look into it now.
