What does /g/ think of "Display Port" ? Do you think its better than HDMI or even DVI?
>>
mini dp is great
>>
>>53563724
it is objectively better than hdmi/dvi

there is nothing to think about
>>
>>53563724
Technically and physically superior to both, doesn't have the licensing issues that HDMI has. Only lacking in adoption.

slightly better than hdmi but dp is garbage compared to dvi

>displayport bandwidth: 26gbit/s

>>53563958
dvi is shit for anything above 1080p
also with longer cables you have to reduce resolution
>>
>>53563983
>>USB C bandwidth: 10gbit/s

Yes but can DisplayPort expose any PCI lanes?
>>
>>53564011
no because its a display standard, not a general use standard
>>
>>53563958
You're clueless, aren't you?
>>53563983
You're not much better. DP is superior to DVI but the things you listed are only half true, if even that.
>>
>>53564021
Well what if I want DisplayPort and PCI in one?
>>
>>53564033
that would be retarded, there would be too much interference
>>
>>53564048
fuck you bitch
>>
>>53564048
False. You can dock up to 3 4k monitors and an external graphics card with Thunderbolt 3.
>>
>>53564033
>Well what if I want DisplayPort and PCI in one?
Remember when this was a bad thing? Having external shit directly touch pci is not good.
>>
>>53564091
Why is this a bad thing? USB controllers sit directly on the PCI bus.
>>
>>53564033
i want a floppy drive bus and a headphone jack in one
>>
>>53564108
Well just redefine the IDE standard to carry Audio and you're good.
>>
>>53564139
ISA bus.

>>
>>53563724

Technically DP rips all other standards a new bunghole, but in real life DP is a real pain in the ass.

DP is nowhere near as widely adopted, and then even if you do have DP you need adapters as most devices have mini DP. Then there's the issues with any cheaper cables not working properly.

Fuck DP
>>
>current year
>needing a second cable for audio
>>
>>53564439
HDMI supports HDCP, which companies want. Really, DisplayPort is going to continue to languish as a niche standard just like has been for years.
>>
>>53563983
>also with longer cables you have to reduce resolution
You do? I've used DVI at 1920x1080 on a 21ft long cable before.

Displayport is the Superior connector, without a doubt.

yes
>>

all consumer digital video standards have shit range
>>

>it worked fine
>no problems at all

I bet the PS/2 section of the adapter chain choked the throughput of the flash drive down to mere kilobytes per second.
>>
>>53564270
>>53565672
0kb/s actually, because it doesn't work
>>
>>53565672
You're responding to a troll/shitpost.

I'm almost 100% certain that the turquoise adapter is only works with specific keyboards that were designed to support it, and the parallel-to-serial doesn't make any sense period.
>>
>>53565710
Yeah the USB to PS/2 adapter has no hardware, it's just for USB keyboards that also support the PS/2 interface
>>
>>53565124
coax is still master race
>>
Maybe if nvidia made it so the displays actually stay on when using DP
>>
>>53566023

Is this a thing? I've never had any problems with this before, been using a displayport cable for 9 months or so now with a nvidia card
>>
>>53566222
I think it only happens with multiple monitors. It's happened to 3 machines I've built all with different nvidia GPUs (970, k2200, k4200)

>dvi is shit for anything above 1080p
Yeah, that's why DVI-D DL is always used for 1440p/1600p, while most shitty 1080p come with HDMI and VGA.

You do know it worked, right? It was recorded at something like 13 kb/s.

I'd like it better if it didn't insist on preventing my computer from booting up properly and resetting the bios with the cable plugged in.
>>
My only gripe is that more motherboards need to have a DP port on the back. Otherwise it's superior to HDMI and DVI in every single way.
>>
>>53566222
>>53566717
This is the case, and it is annoying as fuck. The secondary monitor is often not on, but is what the NV card defaults to because the primary is on DP.

The card's peachy, but NV can't into multimonitor configuration in general.

proof?
>>
>>53570068
Yep. And many people say it's the cable but that's simply not the case. I've used many cables from different manufacturers and they all work the same. Meanwhile my AMD FirePro has no problems driving the same monitors through DP

thats me at work as well.

Just bought a new monitor for home to link that is also DP. I'm slowly tilting towards thinking DP should be used always.

why would you keep making this thread for weeks?
>>
It's just not a proper display connector unless it has 2 screws
>>
>>53563724
yes, of course. especially mini dp. 4k resolution with a small, thin, not ultra portable cable. it shits all over both dvi and hdmi
>>

on apple devices, yes since thunderbolt is used for mini dp

have you run into the issue when screen is turned off, it is disconnected from the PC or has that been fixed?
>>
>>53571869
This won't be fixed, that's how displayport standard wants it to be.
>>
>>53572003
can it be disabled? it is fucking my windows composition as I have also connected non-DP screens
>>
>>53572103
I don't have the issue myself because I use only one monitor.

But I know that some guy used some command to put monitor into power-saving mode instead of turning it off.
>>
>>53572169
I've tried that, is behaves exactly like pushing power button on monitor
>>
>>53563724
better than everything, dumbass
fucking mini dp is literally god mode, everything else should be thrown away.
>>
>>53572003
well that explains a lot rofl
have a dp/hdmi monitor I use the hdmi to test raspberry pi

always wondered why it didn't go back on after I switched back & had to restart X

now I know

What's up with that 'even'? Displayport > HDMI > DVI > VGA.
