A core2 duo is still fast enough for day to day tasks like web browsing.
A core 2 quad is fast enough to handle the latest games if they utilise 4 threads. Almost as well as a haswell i3.

I'm using an older computer as well, which prevents me from running newer software.
Hell, all of my tech is from 2007, expect my TV and my phone. I don't have any routers, too - I connect to the internet on my phone by reverse tethering.
I don't use mobile data plans, too. Prepaid (I pay like 4 euros per 7 months to keep my number alive. I don't need to call people, because people call me.)
