Am I the only one that's annoyed how 3 - 5 hours SOT seems to be the flagship standard? Why don't they make smartphones that can actually last you a full day of screen time (versus the normal estimates of total on time)?

It's because of the ARM processor. x86 is literally more energy efficient than ARM. But manufacturers chose to use angry birds processors because they're cheaper.

Smartphones are built for convenience. People use them for a lot more than you think. Even then, why wouldn't you want a phone that can last you more screen on time off charge? That's infinitely better than knowing you only have X amount of on screen time, so you better conserve it.

What for? Any non shit smartphone will easy last you through a transatlantic flight because it won't waste battery for data during it. Any non shit smartphone will easy last you through a 8h+ work day since you're not spending the entire day looking at your phone, ideally.
There is an issue with some apps wasting too much battery, and this apps need to be addressed, not phones.

I average a tiny bit over 6 hours SOT on my S7(non edge)
I mostly hang on 50-60% backlight so I can get more than this.
The zenfone 2 has ~8 hours of SoT. It turns out x86 is more power efficient than ARM.

You know what the worst part is? If you push the upper limit of that 3 - 5 number, most smartphones consume the entire battery. So people will say "I can easily get 4.5 hours SOT but go from 99 to 15%" which isn't the same.
