Within the next two years, will it be worth upgrading my PC?

It's currently 6 years old, I'm still running a Q6600.

It wasn't worth upgrading 2 years ago, let alone 2 years from now.

>why does every dumb normie even come here?

My point is, will their be a big jump in processing power within the next two years, making upgrading worthwhile?
>>
>>53557707

CPU performance won't increase significantly in the near future.

GPU performance is about to make the biggest leap in years though.

It wont. They say that literally every time. I remember once like 12 years ago I actually fell for the "massively improved perf" meme and spent like $600 on a card. Oh my god what a waste

Why is GPU performance going to improve?

Are you an NVidia shill?

on /g/ doesn't know about the gpu die shrink. get off my board normie
>>
>>53557707
just get a dank xeon cpu and still roll like a boss, it's not like you need to play video games like a kid
>>
>>53558191
It wont. Performance increases at a steady rate of 10-15% at the most or else eveything before becomes obsolete and wont sell
>>
>>53557824

No. Every jump is pretty gradual from a normal person's perspective. But honestly your shit is pretty old so upgrading next year or the year after that is probably recommended.

Right now I'd say buy an SSD if you want to make a minor improvement in your system without having to buy a completely new motherboard that'll also be compatible with your next PC:

When AMD ZEN will be released.
>>
>>53557707
It's literally worth upgrading right now if you've been waiting 6 years you dumb faggot.
>>
>>53558191
>Why is GPU performance going to improve?
Not him, but it's pretty simple as to why. It's because this is the first die shrink we've had in two generations of architecture for both nVidia and AMD.

>Are you an NVidia shill?
Can't you think critically for even 5 fucking seconds you fucking mongoloid?
>>
>>53557707
>tfw Q8200 masterrace and do not have to worry about upgrading
>>
I'm waiting for ZEN. I already know it'll be like 500+ bucks in my country though, considering r390 is 600+
>>
>>53560102

Why? There is nothing I do demands a faster computer. When I do upgrade I want there to be a substantial improvement. The current processors are an improvement but it's insignificant in terms of what I gain from upgrading.

Again my question is will there be a substantial increase in performance in the next couple years.

>>53560127

That's meaningless.

Smaller die doesn't mean shit by itself.

As someone who recently made the jump from a socket 775 pentium dual core with ddr2 to an arrandale i5 with ddr3, you aren't missing out on a whole hell of a lot. My CPU spends most of its time clocked at 1300MHz and 90% of that time in a sleep state. Every once in a while I compile something. Then it clocks itself at 2900MHz and runs 4 threads at a time on 2 cores instead of 2 threads at a time on 2 cores. Whoop de doo.

I have the same, i've only upgraded gpu (a couple years back to gt740)
