Can we talk backups/file syncing /g/?
>Unison
+ CLI and TUI
+ Full control
+ Crossplatform
- No merge
- Slow indexing
>Syncthing
+ Continuous sync
+ SSL/TLS if required
- Early development stage
- Resource hog on slow machines
>Dropbox/Google Drive/Skydrive/Whateverbotnetdrive
+Fast
+Compatible
- Nonfree non-secure proprietary closed source botnet blahblah
- Finite storage space
>Rsync / diff | cp / ...
Not automated, not cross-platform
>Git annex
>Gut
???
What do you use /g/? I tried unison which is nice but really slow on windows. Syncthing is cool too but not very minimal and too heavy for the rPi imo.
Anyone tried git-annex?
btrfs send/receive
I use Seafile on my raspi
+Dropbox-like, open sauce
-my server instalation is unstable
I use Dropbox for work/university related stuff + some personal things like photos, books, etc. I also have an external hard drive which I use exclusively for backup purposes, I update it once a month or so.
Am I doing it wrong?

>- Early development stage
I'm synching a few files (around 200MB) and it worked. Can't really compare because never used BitTorrentSync or similar, but it has done its job.
>- Resource hog on slow machines
What?! It's running good on a raspberry_pi and it doesn't block the CPU. What are you even talking about?
>>53552343
Rsync and cron, that's all you need faggot.
>-my server instalation is unstable
Care to elaborate on this?
rPi 1 or 2?
>>53552660
Yeah because every network ever allows you to ssh in and out
>>53552653
I'm syncing about 20GB on a rPi 2 (encrypted) and it surely takes 100% CPU on occassion when 'scanning'
>>53552687
pi 2, but when I open up the GUI-Web-Frontend it's showing me it uses ~4%. After a few second falls to ~<1%.
I guess it runs also good on a pi 1. Currently not synching, but I guess it wasn't much if it's synching (maybe ~20-30%?).

>I'm syncing about 20GB on a rPi 2 (encrypted) and it surely takes 100% CPU on occassion when 'scanning'
Okay, I don't use that much. But it scans only once or not? After that is slow down the usage of the CPU.

>falling for the backups meme
Just set up a RAID 60 and don't waste your money triplicating data
I'm using Bittorrent Sync and I like it. The devs are constantly adding features and improving stability which is nice.

Every X minutes as set in the settings pane no?
Not sure haven't really been using it a lot lately

Huh? How much automation do you need?
>not cross-platform
What the fuck.
>>53552349
Would use this, but, is btrfs stable now?
I'm using btsync right now on my phone and laptop. Phone gets toasty when transferring multiple gigs but that rarely happens.
>>53552758
>RAID with parity
NTY. I'll stick with RAID1 with an additional spare disk. Also I can't RAID my phone or laptop, I rely on a separate machine for backups.
>>53552814
Stable enough for me. I've never had any problems with it, and it has some really neat features.
>>53552830
Is re-balancing still a problem?
Can fsck really break stuff?
>>53552874
I've rebalanced several times after removing/adding drives to the pool and it worked fine.
>Can fsck really break stuff?
Not that I know of.
All of this is anecdotal evidence though. Just read the btrfs wiki or similar.

robocopy "SOURCE" "DESTINATION" /mir
All my routines in a .bat file. (which could easily be automated if i wanted to)
