Why would I need a new CPU? Skylake is clock for clock as fast as Haswell and Intel have said that their CPUs are only going to get more efficient instead of more powerful.
Basically the only reason to buy any CPU newer than like three years old is if you either need newer chipset features or you're building a new computer.

You have drivers for your CPU as well. Otherwise you'd just have a generic x86 driver which severely limits the capabilities of the processor. Technically the new processors should still work but they will be neutered to the most basic feature set.
