Do Chromebooks make for good tablet replacements if the only thing I use my tablet for is Netflix and surfing the web? I've been considering ditching my rooted Nook for one, but I've heard that some Chromebooks are too slow for Netflix.

Get one with a good celeron, avoid Atom processors.

Acer CB3-111 (acer chromebook 11) has a 2.6ghz dual core celeron which is more than enough to do 60fps 720p video streaming with no stutter.

Just get an iPad

Just buy the $50 amazon tablet and 128gb SD card or the 200gb one.

Of course. Any recent processor should be able to play 1080p, and web is not demanding if you block ads. My c720 plays 2k with stuttering, but its not a slideshow.

>using a tablet aa a facebook machine

My chromebook with N2840 CPU and 2GB RAM handles netflix. But I need to be careful with the amount of open tabs, after 6-7 tabs shit slows down.

>X replacement

I dare anyone to install gentoo on a chromebook.

I've done it. It Ain't Easy.

This is the Chromebook I use and it's perfect for web browsing, word processing and Netflix viewing.

It's incredibly portable too.

It already comes with gentoo. Emerge is installed by default.

Should've gotten the model running Windows T.B.H. F.A.M. easier to turn off secureboot and slap Lunix on there if you really want.

I have a an Acer with a celeron and it is a perfectly fine Facebook machine, it was like 150 bucks

Acer Chromebooks are the dog's bollocks. I wouldn't use anything more powerful from them, but their Chromebooks are the tits.

ASUS makes some pretty good ones too.
>>
>>53542986
This is stupid. Pretty much all Chromebooks can stream 720p video no stutter assuming your internet isn't a throttle.
I'd recommend the ASUS Chromebook Flip, which I have. Excellent device, good screen (despite resolution), touchscreens, 360 degree so it can be a tablet, and the battery life is insane
>>
>>53544161
No, not like that. I meant overhaul the whole OS.
>>
>>53544206
Except the old laptop will be like 6 pounds and an hour of battery life opposed to a cheap Acer chromebook which weighs nothing and has 6+ hour battery

/g/ loves to recommended stupid shit just to avoid appearing as a "normfag"
