Hey /g/, what are some god tier networking books to read if I'm wanting to get into the field?
>>
since youre a beginner any entry level networking certification book will do.

CCNA or Network+

Read books and setup a lab (look into UNETLab or GNS3)

Networking is practical too op. Download packet tracer and get the cisco Ccna lab manual. Basically your going to learn a chapter, say on OSPF , and then configure it on virtual routers. Learning switching is pretty fun desu. Fire walls are a bitch, Access control lists make me sad. Anyway go learn that then apply to get CCNA certification. This is all entirely do able in 2 months if you spend 1-2 hours a day on it. After Ccna routing and switching shot gets hard. But career wise is very promising. Hell I'm in charge of a whole autonomous system with 3 years networking experience

Tannenbaum, bruh.

packet tracer is very limited. its ok for CCNA level because the exam doesnt go too deep but for learning it would e better to use actual gear or at least actual images. Also its Cisco only.
Try GNS3, Unified Networking Labs, or real lab gear.

Computer Networks by Tenenbaum.

Ah here he should start on packet tracer then complete Ccna and only then use gns 3. You start at the start anon.

I need to start as well Anon. Do I need CCNA books ?

Cisco is not the only networking vendor.
They are the biggest and their certs are the most recognized. But to tell a beginner he HAS to start with CCNA is good marketing.

For beginner networking you wont even use packet tracer.

For beginner networking you definitely will need packet tracer. And Ccna will get you a job and also it's only barely vendor specific. There's only two protocols in the whole course that are cisco proprietary.

I think I have the basic knownledge I'd need. I red most of Computer Networks, and other books as well. I'm a beginner in practice, but I think I know enough to begin practice.

>use this shitty Packet Tracer that only supports cisco and is missing tons of features
>GNS3 supports everything and it just as easy
why would they have to use packet tracer anon. its the worst of all the networking emulators

Gns assumes you know cable management for a start. It takes so much basic networking knowledge for granted.
