I prefer concrete given the buildings natural predisposed inability for natural conditions. So the only real warmth is nature beyond buildings and their walls.
I like the idea of contrast as you have suggested with wood. Therefore I am not saying I disagree, but for the surrounding wall of that open space concrete or at least a better grain.
