What do you guys do with your dead/old GPUs?
ship 'em to african children
sell them on eBay "as-is", and say it was working when unplugged
>>53531354
Tek Syndicate??
ship them back to amd.
>>53531300
fell for that when i was 13. tough lesson.
>>53531275
Sell them
>tfw Ben and Jerry's are so fucking expressive in Australia
>>53531372
can't be, his is an amd card (I think) and logan's is some nvidia something or another, he shills for AMD hard but then always buys intel/nvidia.
>>53531416
cost $4.50 here
it's not even that good.
The first GPU I ever bought goes in every new build I have. My others just go in a drawer for when I need them
>>53531275
I try the oven and if it works I sell them quickly.
If they don't I put them on my desk, I got a few already for decoration but mostly the oven trick does the job.
bury them in my grandmas christmas garden
>>53531300
>>53531585
you fucktards are whats wrong with the woprld
I'm about to put an old one in a home server and underclock the shit out of it because the mobo doesn't have any onboard video.
Otherwise they get sold on ebay, or if dead they get tossed.
>>53531529
I feel like he gets them as review cards and things like that, so he just uses them because they're free. Not sure though, that's just speculation
>>53531566
Are you an underage b& whose first GPU is a 7970 or something like that? If not, then why the fuck would you use a (presumably) extremely old GPU in new rigs?
Test them - sell them if they work, if not I just make a keychain out of the GPU.
I always keep a spare PCI and PCIe GPU lying around just for testing purposes. It's good to have them for troubleshooting. Right now my beater GPU is a 560Ti.
>>53532115
I had plenty of GPUs before that one, but the first I purchased is this beast
>>53531543
Part of the price is buying into the warm fuzzies of a small guy brand (which is now owned by a multinational juggernaut.)
>>53532128
>>53532115
Also I should clarify that it's not the main GPU, just that if I have a free PCIe slot and it's a PCIe GPU why not add it to the build?
>>53532128
>500 series
so how many house fires have you had?
>>53532261
>still using the GPU
>yet it somehow burned down my house
Think about that for a moment
>>53532261
I legitimately bought a 480 for $30 to keep me warm in the winter, put my 670s back in now that it's warmed up.
>>53532291
It isn't a bad idea desu. If your computer is going to be running 24/7, why not at least get some heat out of it to warm up the room?
>>53532291
I've got a PowerMac G5 server that plays a role in heating my room, I love the concept
>>53532310
Holy shit, there's a wordfilter on /g/?
t b h wordfilters to desu
>>53532334
how have people not realized this yet
s m h baka
t b h desu
f a m senpai
>>53532334
How new are you?
>>53532310
It's cheaper than turning my furnace up.
>>53532326
I had this little q6600 rig converting all my .avi files to .mp4 over the course of a week. It was a good little heater.
>>53531300
Joke's on you. Ebay will make you refund the sale.
>>53531275
Throw them out.
>>53532346
>>53532353
I stopped browsing /g/ after the autism of 2015, I haven't been here since late 2014. I decided I needed a year's break, since it went from tech humor and fun stuff to shitposting and people baiting arguments and flamewars.
>>53532400
its even less about tech
>>53532359
>>53532310
>Rooms cold
>Open CPU-Z
>"Stress CPU"
4.8GHz OC with a AIO radiator really heats the place up
>>53532375
This. Not only will you have to refund it, you'll get negative feedback.
Inb4
>feedback doesn't matter
Dead components go on the wall. Most died from overclocking related causes but some are just space fillers.
>>53531275
I have never had a gpu die on me. I am not a moron.
>>53531275
I keep my GPU as a backup for myself, in case whatever I am using breaks, so I can have a working machine.
>>53531372
Fedora shit
>>53533186
>has burned out more than a single piece of hardware due to overclocking
Maybe you should stop fucking up so bad senpai
>>53533369
LN2 is risky business m8. I really need to re-do the wall, I have another 680 and two more 7970s to add.
>>53531275
I keep them.
>>53532400
>it went from tech humor and fun stuff to shitposting and people baiting arguments and flamewars
That's been happening since 2010 mayte.
>>53531275
Dead GPUs go in the bin and old GPUs go in boxes or old surfing rigs.
>>53532375
Absolutely not true. If you sell a product as "untested" with the "for parts" status, the buyer has zero recourse. People are willing to take a gamble on things if you list them as "untested" like that.
>>53533521
>for parts
that's basically admitting it's broken
>>53531275
Wait until I can properly reflow them
>>53533186
Fucking barf. At least frame them or hang them straight you animal
>>53532346
tbqh I thought they got rid of the word filter and people were still using baka/desu/senpai ironically
Put em in my dad's computer and steal his 970
>>53532177
>First GPU you owned
>PCIE
I guess you weren't alive when AGP slots were around, hell I remember using ISA slots.
I sell them on Craigslist if they're worth anything.
If not I keep them along with other old parts until I ca n build another PC out of them.
>>53532291
>mfw dual nehalem-ep
>>53534246
>retard can't read
It's the first GPU I ever purchased, not the first I'd ever owned. That was my 5th or 6th GPU and my first PCIe GPU.
>>53533186
nothing screams i get mad pussy like mobos and halo shit all over the walls
I just put my finally dead 560 ti 448 classified back in its original packaging and back in the original box to rip.
was a damn good card and still had no problems running most new games on medium/high with certain settings.
>>53534664
The poster and needler were gifts from my boyfriend m8.
>>53532359
>that smaller heatsink
>never talk to me or my son ever again
