my laptop came with a 5400 rpm hdd 3 years ago. I swapped it for an ssd. Not super high read and write speeds, but much higher than ssd. swapping was a pain because it is an ultrabook, but soooooooo worth it. Don't listen to the ssd sucks meme. My computer is much much faster than when I first bought it. Its so snappy and everything is so quick.

SSDs blow HDDs out of the water. The only downside is price. They're smaller, faster, physically more durable (drop safe), and usually fail gracefully (go into read-only mode when write cycles run out). HDDs days are numbered.
