just bought two HGST Deskstar NAS 3TB (H3IKNAS30003272SE) and one of them is spiking a bit while the other is pretty damn even

should I return one of them before putting them in a RAID?

that deviation is normal, your drive is fine. raid0 them if you want extra read and write perf, raid1 if you want redundancy in case one drive fails.
