The G3258 has only ever been useful for PCSX2 and Dolphin emulation, although it is pretty fucking GOAT at that.
>>
>>53508779
>>
>>53508812
It is useful for PCSX2 emulation? How good it exactly? Like good for the price or is it actually really good? Still doesn't hold up to more recent CPUs right.
>>
>>53508898
PCSX2 only uses 2 cores for the bulk of the emulation that it does. I think a third thread can be used but has very minimal impact on the program. The fact that the 3258 can be easily and safely overclocked on air to around 4.0 GHz with Haswell IPC basically means you will have zero issue emulating any PS2 game. In fact, it will be better than any locked i3 or i5 intel Haswell if all you're doing is PCSX2, so in that sense it's an insane value for the price as long as you pair it with a Z87/Z97 board.

I actually have a locked G3240 and spare Z97 board that I may convert to an emulation box at some point. I tested it out briefly and had no noticeable issues in some pretty demanding games and that's only at 3.1 GHz. Just goes to show how powerful intel's CPUs are at single threaded performance.
>>
Will they ever make an upgraded version of the 3258? This CPU is just pure awesome.
>>
>>53509058
I wonder. The thing was a huge hit but you'd have to imagine it cuts into their i3 segment.
>>
>>53509193
Well, that sucks. they might even scarp the whole series just to leave the market for the i3.
>>
>>53509241
Well they haven't completely given up on Pentiums altogether so maybe there's hope. Looks like they've got 3.3 GHz and 3.5 GHz locked Skylake Pentiums. Problem is the 3.5 GHz G4500 is like 90 bucks. Definitely not worth it as long as the G3258 is still available for about 70 and you have a board you can overclock on.

are you stuck in 2005??

>Listening to /g/

You are in a board that unironically swears upon old dogshit tech and hates everything even remotely new.
If you listen to /g/ then you'll end up using a P4 with a CRT monitor and a keyboard from the 80's.

CRT are better than TFTs tough. A TFT can't display a proper black which will ruin all immersion in movies and video games.

>A TFT can't display a proper black which will ruin all immersion in movies and video games.
We have newer panel types that can do that. Get with the times retard.
>>
>>53509589
Maybe in 1996 retard
>>
>>53509414
I compared with G3250. Performance is slower, but it has better graphics and HT.
>>
>>53508779
If you are so poor you can't get a i5, buy an AMD. They are good too OP
>>
>>53509573
>CRT are better than TFTs tough

Oh bullshit.

>A TFT can't display a proper black

That is *one* and only one metric by which one might judge a monitor. And it's RELATIVE.

I cannot convey to you kids how shitty the VAST majority of CRTs were. Back in the 90's, .35 and even .41 dot pitch were pretty normal. You'd sit at a typical monitor and chances were that half of it would be noticeably out of focus. And white whites? Good luck. Only the best monitors could make a vibrant white that didn't wash out the dark pixels next to them. Usually, an all-white screen would be a smattering of various off-white shades, with maybe 1/3 of the monitor noticeably off-color.

The best of the best, like Sony Trinitron tubes, were pretty nice. But for real-world use, LCD panels will win overall, every damn time.

1999:
> had to keep my Nokia (Sony Trinitron) 17" monitor's box for transport since I didn't want to break the $600 monitor
> monitor took a minute to warm up before colors were normal
> Trinitron tubes had two horizontal lines where fine stabilization wires were run
> Most people had a hard time moving a 17" monitor
> only pretty strong people could dream of moving a 21"
>needed a much deeper desk to put the deep-ass CRT on
>everything was curved along at least one dimension

2016
>can grab a 30" monitor and go. Protect the screen from sharp objects and you're set
>SO MUCH ROOM FOR ACTIVITIES
>IPS colors are fantastic
>IPS view angles are fantastic
>TFT refresh is fantastic

Pick you poison. They're all better than the dog shit we were choking down in 1999.

Got my g3258 for 40 bucks two weeks ago at frys. Ganna put my dolphin box together this weekend, should be good.

For what it is the G3258 is a beast. If you can't afford at least and i5, AMD is the way to go.

The i3 6100 coupled with ddr4 performs better than the 6300 and 860k at the same price range. It's only a few frames behind the i5 coupled with an an r9 380/960, making it a good choice for those limited to 1080p.

Really should've just scrounged up the few extra bucks for an 8320
