2 is complete over kill. What's the point of the ugly and useless one on the desktop? If you open anything you won't be able to see it. Same goes with the calendar. I've never used OSX, but I assume you can click or hover over the time in the bar and get the date from that. Also having a quote on your desktop is stupid. Pretty sure you can also make it so your now playing song shows up in the bar, instead of on the desktop, which is completely useless anyways, because you should either know what you're listening to, or easily be able to take to seconds the check the actual program playing the music. Desktop icons are bad too. You have the ones on the left, yet still have the ugly and huge ones on the right.

As I'm using OS X most of the application I use I put into full screen mode. Meaning I can just three finger swipe between anything I'm doing. When I'm bored of what I'm doing, not doing anything or just want a break I can literally three finger swipe to my desktop where I'm greeted with a (in my opinion) good looking, sleek environment.

Using a tool called Ubersicht, looked at Geektool but from what I could gather there wasn't much new development (nice modern, sleek looking) applets for it. Probably just didn't look far enough.
And I do agree it's a bit busy. My idea is to get rid of the calendar and replace it with a simpler weather app (thus deleting the current huge weather app). Then move the clock to the top left or bottom left (or middle, whatever looks best) and the icons either below or above it. And finally will look into getting a shortcut or something to hide the menu bar feel it sort of ruins the whole environment.

Usually use Manjaro i3, new computer. The GUI doen't show when I move my mouse on MPV so I use VLC, on the main screen it's fine but when using my TV Ubuntu only allows 24hz and I get lines on the screen when it flashes or moves too much (tearing?)
