I am new to linux and have been using Ubuntu 14.04 for the past few weeks. Should I stick with this or try to install another distro?
>>
>>53489273
Been using Debian for 2 years and used Arch for a year before that and Ubuntu for 2 years before that. Switched back to Ubuntu 14.04, Unity and all, Last month. No regrets.
>>

Stay on it. Run other Linux systems in virtual machines to see if you like them, but you shouldn't feel compelled to switch just to prove something
>>
>>53489273
Ubuntu is easy to use, so stick with it until you're comfortable with linux.
You can try installing other distro in VM and fuck with them to test them out without nuking you're computer
>>
>>53489273
Try other distros in virtualbox or live usb if you are curious. You don't need to change your distro for the sake of changing it unless you have problems. Instead learn to do something useful with your OS
>>
>>53489273
instead of installing other distros, try installing other desktops to see what you like.
Unity is pretty confy though, especially on my touch screen x86 tablet
>>
you can try fedora or opensuse for an rpm distro

It can be the most comfy distro as soon as the Amazon botnet is uninstalled and online search deactivated.

Never gave me any problems.
>>
you have two possibilities:
1 Stick with ubuntu if you like it
2get an old pc, try every distro you can find on the internet on it
>>
Just built my first computer, and after I wasn't able to install windows 7 (still no clue why) I gave Ubuntu a try and so far I'm very pleased with it. only issue is it doesn't recognize one of my hard drives, but whatever.

I've only used Linux once long ago and I had no idea what I was doing. Ubuntu seems comfy but I still feel a bit clueless how to make it run as best it can

You most likely have no idea why you would ever want to 'try another distro' or why that is even a thing or why they are different. And I don't mean that in a dickheaded way, I mean that in a 'that pretty much goes for everyone' type of way.

Why 99.999999999999999999% (yes made up) of people mean by 'switch distros' in this context is 'switch desktop environments'.
>>
Thanks for the replies. This is what I'm currently running. I disabled the online search, how do I get rid of the amazon stuff? Also, what's the command for showing my computers OS/stats in the shell?
>>
>>53489273
I prefer gnu/linux/ubuntu/gnome
>>
>>53490716
Screenfetch is the shell command, but it must be installed separately.

You can use the Software Center to uninstall Amazon integration.

Just look for the Amazon package and uninstall it.
>>
I enjoy using Unity.
>>
>>53490858
Software center, installed, search amazon
>>
Using Ubuntu 15.10 MATE. Amazing. I do enjoy Cinnamon better though.

Man I really wanted to move to 16.04 but those AMD GPU driver issues are a bummer

Anyone have any experience with the open drivers?
>>

Stick with Ubuntu LTS if you use the box for work. If you use it for school, and have assignments you NEED to get done, keep a box with LTS on it. Even an old shit box will do.

been using linux since 2007

wait another month or so till the stable 16 LTS comes out and then you wont have to touch it for 5 years

but windows 10 is 100% better once you add Total360 suite with bitdefender and avira engines enabled

if and when windows 10 finally starts making you pay to actviate ill switch back to ubuntu, but all the issues or bullshit with XP and 7 are gone and its basically a KDE UI that actually works and not fucking broken or autistic

Still using Ubuntu here. I need my Steam and Netflix.
