Can someone recommend a build that would be fit for bringing up on a Navy ship? I was thinking some kind of micro-ITX rig but idk what to do about the monitor portion to save space and add portability.
>>
You'd be better off getting a laptop. I was on the Eisenhower and there isn't much room for stuff like that unless you have a really cool DIVO who'll let you store stuff in the shop.

Yeah I know, but I would like to engineer a creative solution if I could.

As far as laptops go, I heard Sager is pretty good yeah?

when were you on the IKE?
>>
>>53451765
yes it is. $2000 got me one hell of a laptop. all i would recommend is get an extended warranty because the first one i had a freak occurance caused something with the charging/power circuitry to pop and make it so it couldnt draw power from the battery and it would shut off if removed from the wall, and of course it happened literally 1 month after the 1 year warrenty ran out. ive had my new one for a year and its been fine so far.

>>53451922

I'd def get a warranty on something like a nice laptop. /g/ still makes me feel intrinsically bad for doing it tho

Being in the military is one of the only legitimate reasons to buy a gaming laptop.

Yeah, I'm thinking of trying to make it myself to save $100 instead of getting this case which is practically the same

I have zero milling experience or where to start for making the fan holes though.

Is that really supposed to be a meme? I wouldn't know since I don't browse those sites.
>>
>>53456033
I want that case but it's really hard to justify $300 for it. It's going to fail the Kickstarter because of the price too.
>>
>>53455479

Honestly, in the military you should still stick with a desktop. Bring a handheld or something with you during deployments. Something you don't mind losing, like a 3ds with a ton of roms.

I dropped my HP DV6000 from the top rack on the GDub. Damn thing was still running when I picked it up.

A PSP w/ CFW + Dual MicroSD to MS PRO DUO adapter + 2 32GB MicroSD's + tons of ISO's is a good idea too.

Should only be around 76$ if you find a PSP-2000/PSP-3000 used.

You don't want the PSP-1000, coined as "the phat", because it only has 32 megs of RAM, whereas the PSP-2000 (slim, rev. 1) and the PSP-3000 (slim, rev. 2), have 64 megs of RAM along w/ the ability to run their processors at 333MHz instead of the PSP-1000's 222MHz. PSP games that don't have their framerate capped to 30 will run at 60 when 333MHz is forced through CFW. It looks beautiful.
>>
>>53458661

Phats can run their processors at 333mhz too m8
>>
>>53458661
32 vs 64 megs, isn't that much of a problem.

I just ordered two 64GB microSDs and a duel adapter for em.

It's what I'm using right now in between desktops. Thermal solutions are loud but extremely effective. I encode movies sometimes and it hardly throttles.

ETCS(SW)(Ret) here -

A decent gaming laptop is what you want - you might not play games underway so the box will be more than enough for casual use. If you want to play, well there you go.

Some compromise is inevitable - don't rely on yer buds in orther divisions/work centers to help you out. If they can, great, if not, you're on your own.

Or this http://www.hardwarecanucks.com/forum/case-mods-worklog-gallery/68981-side-panel-monitor-case-mod.html

Or you could go about hinging a monitor on top of a cube case. Or mount >>53453208
To the back of a sturdy monitor.

Get a briefcase and install computer components in it. The video card (and other PCIe devices) will need riser cables so you can reorient them.
