Mega because it's the most convenient way I've found to transfer images from my phone to computer, and I can easily sent people links to various things on my "cloud" storage.
>>
>>53437579
>Storage run by other people
lol no

if a drive randomly fails and my data dies, I'd like it to be my drive and my problem without waiting on others to solve it.
>>
What to use if I want to send few pics and links to my pc while browsing with my android? Using dropbox and browser sync atm but don't like it. Is there any better solution? Like to make my android a smaller portable screen for pc basiclly.

Owncloud

how is owncloud any different from setting up a FTP server? i never understood how cloud storage distinguished itself from FTP.

Syncthing has their own app that works very well.

Comes with a web interface OOTB.
It makes backups of the various versions of a file.
It's easier to share specific files only with specific people ( like generating a http link that points them to a file and expires after a period of time you specify)
FTP is insecure and SFTP requires a big range of dynamic ports to be opened in the firewall. Owncloud requires only port 80.
I'm sure there are a lot of other advantages, but those are the ones I've observed so far.
>>
>>53442851
>ftp insecure
>owncloud over port 80
You comparing plaintext vs plaintext, also sftp is over ssh so it's way more secure.
>>
>>53442851
The link generator isn't even the best example really.
I work at a company that's transitioning from using a bunch of FTP servers to using Owncloud and - while they are confused by the web interface- the accessing of files is a lot more straightforward, when each worker has 1 'cloud' folder and inside it only the stuff that pertains to them, instead of the maze of folders on each server created by the various departments and people within them.
>>
>>53442924
Well, 80 if you don't set up SSL, 443 if you do.
And with LetsEncrypt giving out free certs recognized by both Firefox and Chrome, there's no reason not to.

>if a drive randomly fails and my data dies, I'd like it to be my drive

you realize the data syncs every so often right? it's local and remote at the same time... if the service goes down you just lose the remote sync... its not like the data disappears off your local drive

Google Drive for books and comics. Google Photos for random images I like and screenshot from games. iCloud for semi important documents. Onecloud for ... I am not even sure what to do with it. MS is very anal about their rules and I can't be assed encrypting stuff.

Anybody knows a cloud for videos/anime/music/porn that can stream AND has at least 50GB free storage? I tried Hive but obviously it died now.

>>53441541
So what? You have to be idiotic to use the cloud as your only backup but having one more never hurts.
>>
OneDrive.
>>
Google Drive, I have UNLIMITED STORAGE, which I abuse to store scientific data.

Now if I can figure out how to programmatically upload stuff to it, then I don't have worry about space complexity ever again!

Also are there any free clouds you can compute on? I need more computational firepower.

All-Inkl.com
Best host ever
I store backups of media files via FTP

NSA can access it but I don't think its as botnet like Google
Also I hope they like Goa trance and old movies if they open up my files

MY GOD THIS

I once fucked up a board that I was supposed to host when I was a 16yo php coder and I wrote a mail if it was possible to restore the data.

They restored everything and fixed my error in the code for free and told me what I was doing wrong
>>
i use michealsoft onedrive to backup my porn because i use two different computers and i dont know which one ill be at when its fap time
>>
>>53442851
Wrong, sftp uses one port. FTPS on the other hand uses a large range.
>>
>>53442851
>FTP is insecure and SFTP requires a big range of dynamic ports to be opened in the firewall. Owncloud requires only port 80.

sftp requires nothing but port 22 you dingus.
>>

I might be missing something but last time I checked all-inkl is a german company located in germany with server standing in germany.
Unless they use a zero day exploit I dont see how the NSA got a look at your data.

also I use the free 1 TB plan of TransIP as my cloud storage.
speed is okay and webdav allows me to use it on any device so Im good.

I'm not Business and they usually answer my messages within 4 minutes at 3 am. My webspace never had any downtime or any server/stability related problems.

For the service its pretty cheap, 10 domains / 250 GB for 9.95 € a month. You get discount when you pay for long term.
>>53449084
>Germany
>Not NSA
They can look on any server they want.

Using a webhoster is the best way unless you own a homeserver. NAS can help but you need to do backups for yourself. Also access will be limited by your DSL speeds.

Mega seems like a good choice as far as storage goes. Your files are encrypted when you upload them, but I would advise encrypting them yourself if you are planning on storing something important.
