Not everything is an overnight sensation. HTC and Oculus have done their market research they know what they can sell at the current price point with the current tech and they are back ordered a fair bit. So far so good.
This will not be a flash in the pan like Wii. It will be a slow burn like home PCs, smartphones and the internet were.
Most people get their shit from tv commercials. They have not started to mass promote vr to the sheeps just yet.
Though very few people are gonna buy something thats worth their rent.

Well, that's generally speaking how being an early adaptor works. It can be said of pretty much all technology. When I was a kid my mom bought a home PC, I distinctly remember one of her friends telling her that buying a personal computer was just getting a personal problem. I like to think computers have come a long way since then.
