Is fanless a meme?
>>
>>53308009
IMO the price and the heating issues are the only things wrong with MacBooks anymore
>>
>meme

It's called a tradeoff you goon. What's more important to you, size or power?
>>
>>53308025
got rmbp 15 and 13 2015 (13 is mine, 15 is the work laptop they gave me), no heating issues, 15 has fan noise when it's under heavy load but nothing more than that. 13'' is super silent and 0 heating probs
>>
>>53308009
That's not fanless, though. What's your point?
>>
>>53308009
the keyboard looks like it's bending.
>>
How the fuck does that not damage the screen??
>>
>>53308211
Because its only 40ºC?
Better than a shitXPS 13 that has 57ºC surface temperatures when doing work.
>>
Testing out the fanless meme with my new cube i7 stylus, fans suck. But the coreM does get pretty hot though and it does need some opening up and putting some copper inside it.

>it does need some opening up and putting some copper inside it.
No point if there's no airflow. It might delay throttling for another few seconds, that's pretty much it.
>>
>>53308054
Oh in that case wow I really want one, I wish I had lots of money

works for me
>>
>>53308376
What laptop? Does that setting actually do anything?
I had that option on my old Asus and it doesn't do shit to the fan since it was controlled by the BIOS.
>>
>>53308249
dont need no extra copper all you need is a good thermal paste
>>
>>53308496
also downvolt, running my corem 5y70 -65mV works just fine
>>
>>53308496
new paste resulted in 15°C change
>>
>>53308504
What software do you use to downvolt? I thought it wasn't possible post-C2D.
>>

this shit right herehttp://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/191115149138?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT

what laptops have the quietest cooling system?
>>
>>53308483
HP envy 17, with a 2.2ghz i7
Yeah the fan used to be loud as fuck but with that setting it either never turns on or is barely audible
>>
>>53308519
Ones that are fanless.

intel xtu
>>
>>53308533
I meant besides fanless? Need more power
>>
>>53308536
also overall lower power consumption = more battery life
>>
>>53308511
>>53308504

I was also going to do all this as well, I was thinking for the copper shims and plate to both give it some more thermal capacity and to also vent some heat into the case as well. I've also reduced the tdp of the turbo and turbo max times which seems reduced temps a little.
>>
>>53308559
also fyi, if you plan on putting in copper the back plate will get as hot as the cpu that means the back will get around 80°C, and you cant hold that in your hands...
>>
>>53308559
>>53308582 currently on HP Envy x2, thank god for the back stand, with the custom thermal paste it gets up to 65°C and even that is unbearable to hold
>>
>>53308611
got a real bargain on this bad boy
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/281903664871?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT
also much better specs than cube i7, if you dont count the size...
>>
It is a meme for anything that draws a lot of power.
>>
>>53308582
I think there's manual thermal throttling in the intel utility to stop it from getting that high.

But all these hurdles to solve are pretty fun with an entirely passive machine, everything I've done desktop recently is put huge heatsink on cpu and clear dust every now and then. Laptops being the worst of both worlds.
>>
no, but it's still dangerous and impractical

How does the icons on the desktop appear on thermal camera? They emit heat?
