Waiting for 13" rMBP refresh thread

Same! Although a bit unsure about 13" vs 15". Will likely be having separate peripherals for at home (external mechanical keyboard, multiple monitors, mouse). 13" will maximize portability but I may be using this a lot on the go or watching movies in bed. Would I miss out without a 15"?

Does Apple Care transfer across countries?

Signed. Although I am waiting for the 15-inch Skylake.
>>
>>53289719
I have 13", it's enough for watching movies and stuff. If you need the portability go for it.
>>
So is June or later a lock? Too long.
>>
I'm buying in November probably, pretty hype.
>>
>>53289719
15" seems good, but fuck it starts at 2k. 13" starts at a more reasonable price, expensive, but more in line with other ultrabooks

Do Macbooks over heat? If so, that's lame af.
>>
Fuck I wanna get a Macbook 15 so bad but the price is just too high for me to justify.

Once I get out of university and get a stable job, it's going to be my first purchase. I really wished Apple came out with a business line/traveller line, they would be thicker and have much larger batteries in them.
>>
>>53291269
If you're not doing super heavy stuff not really. If so you should be using a laptop in the first place.

I am tempted to buy a skylake mbpr, apple seems to be the only manufacturer that gets laptop displays right.
I just really don't want to be seen with apple products in public. Also the glued in battery is a bummer.
>>

just buy a thinkpad and use linux if you really hate windows that much

There are battery capacity restrictions for airline travel. 15 inch rMBP already uses a large battery as is.

haha fucking what?

$2,000 for the 15 inch rmbp is pretty good actually.
this is coming from an anti apple fag.

In terms of comfy factor, for for the 13. I got a 15 for college and maxed it out because hackintosh in wasn't great at the time.

It's just not a good value anymore with the XPS 15 around, which is cheaper and packs more punch.
>>
>>53289693
I wanted to wait but I couldn't so I bought a surface book instead. Pretty happy with my choice, I'd rather have a 3:2 MacBook though.

Ever seen a battery explode?
Shits fucking scary.
>>
>>53289693
>try three 13.3" rMBPs in past generations
>give up because all had significant display uniformity issues
>settle for MBA instead but yearn for an IPS display and a performance bump
>try current generation 13.3" MBP
>display actually looks pretty good, this one might be a keeper
>notice that the display quickly and repeatedly gets a bunch of oil marks on it because it actually touches the keyboard when closed
>return for a refund and go back to my MBA
>tfw stuck with pleb MBA forever
>>
>>53295216
seems like it's way better for the price than the XPS 13 even, you can get a nice quad-core cpu for just $100 or so more.
paired with tb3 it should be decent gaming rig if eGPUs become a thing
>>
>>53295283
why would a battery explode on an airplane? the pressure isn't that much. people would get sick or pass out before a battery would explode
>>
>>53295308
>why would a battery explode on an airplane
The same reason it would explode on ground level.

It sometimes happen, anon.

damn, never had those issues with rMBPs, you've must've had shit luck
>>

I got a 15 inch macbook pro 2011 with the high res antiglare display, 16gb RAM, a core i7 quad core, and a 250gb samsung 850 evo SSD for 499 on ebay uk. Fucking love it more than my 13 inch rmbp 2014
>>
>>53296131
I think most people are a lot less sensitive to uniformity issues than I am, because I see it on a lot of displays, not just rMBPs.

As for the keyboard touching issue, there were plenty of reports of that in relation to the anti-reflective coating becoming permanently damaged, although in my case I just wasn't going to tolerate seeing the oil on the display regardless of whether or not it caused permanent damage.

To me the display touching the keyboard is a serious design flaw, although I suppose it's possible that not all of them do and there's some production variance that causes slight bowing down of the display. In the case of mine, all the marks were towards the center and not towards the sides, so it was definitely due to the display bowing down ever so slightly towards the center.
>>
>>53289693
>13 inch
Are you a hobbit?
>>
>>53296422
no, because the 15 inch is overpriced af
13 inch is more reasonably priced, portability is a bonus. also no need for the 15's quad core processor unless you're trying to game on a fucking mac or doing crazy video editing
>>
Using rMBP 13 right now.

I love everything about it except.... The garbage tier OS. This thing fucking blows. After 6 months using it half time, I still have trouble with it. So much for intuitiveness. Also, it throttles fairly heavily on anything remotely intensive. The "i5" meme is real here.

but:
>dat 10 hr battery life
>best speakers of any laptop ever
>amazing screen
>panties droppin

Anyways, I will not be getting another Macbook.
>>
>>53296594
But you can use other operating systems on a Mac. If it's the perfect hardware for you, why not just do that?
>>
>>53296594
you can easily install Linux or Windows
that's the beauty of Macs, having all three OSs are your disposal

i just found a 2012 13inch MBP in my back alley and salvaged the motherboard.

do you guys think it'd still work with this part being broken? it doesn't look like the internals of the chip (or whatever i don't know what it's called) are broken, just the top.

in pic
>>
>>53298026
planning on using it as a server if it works. Do you guys think that an iWorld or mac store would test to see if it works? I don't wanna drop money on a charger if it doesn't work, and i have no friends with Apple products.
>>
Yep. Hoping for refresh in a few weeks but not holding my breath. My Dell D620 is starting to feel a bit long in the tooth.
>>
Hoping for an announcement soon because my current laptop is slowly dying. Might go for a reduced price mid 2015 model desu.

>If you're not doing super heavy stuff not really. If so you should be using a laptop in the first place.
So if you want to do actual work, which Apple fanatics are quick to point to when extolling the virtues of OSX and Macs, the machine isn't very good? So you mean it's a very expensive facebook machine like /g/ has been spouting all this time?
>>
>>53295216

Is the trackpad usable on this one ?

>>53298026
>>53298060

Looks like small transformer. It means the power supply is probably busted. You could always check if it's a standard IC and solder a new one if you can solder surface-mount yourself...

>>

I knew they existed, but I honestly think it's absolutely ridiculous to have to deal with putting that on and taking it off every single time I close and open the lid. My MBA doesn't get keyboard marks at all.

Max out the 15" for the dGPU. Even if you don't bootcamp it for gaymang, the dGPU is much, much better for tasks like photo/video editing, machine learning, and other tasks like it.

Unless you have a desktop for that shit already, in which case get a thinkpad and install gentoo

or just do what you want

I'm not a cop
>>
>implying 13" is the size of a sheet of paper

only idiots would buy that. if you need space, get a second monitor for your desktop and buy 11".

thanks for the help. I intend to learn how to do that, so i might as well start with something that didn't cost me a cent to procure.

i'll still be testing it before hand, as the physical damage to the laptop was the most obvious cause to it breaking. It'd be nice and cool and rad if it were as simple as the plastic broke off and nothing else. the thing looked like it was that kid at Tienanmen square got shat on by godzilla, but the harddrive and ram still work.
