Depends if the price is right.

i already have a sm951.

it's worth it.

No. Maybe if I was a video editor who profited from these insane speeds, but my Chromium already starts instantly with my SATA3 SSD, I don't know how an M.2 SSD could possibly improve that.

It is so worth it.
My laptop is pretty decent, running a 850 ssd, desktop is noticeably faster.
>>

take it out again, i promise you'll notice
>>
>>53258981
i think he's saying there's not enough of an improvement over a regular SSD not that an SSD isn't a noticeable improvement over a regular HDD
>>
>>53258913
If it works well as a cache drive for slower SSDs, sure.
>>
I just want to see laptops using mSATA instead of 2.5 bays. Is that so much to ask?
>>
>>53258939
>i have never tried an nvme drive

sorry, that's all i got out of your post.
>>
>>53259068
Most recent laptops already use M.2 m8.
>>
>>53258956
The 850 is just a SATA3 drive on an M.2 form factor that tops out at 6Gbps. The 950 is PCIe in the guts and is *actually* faster than SATA3.
>>
>>53259104
Yes. I know.

I am saying that it is noticeably faster.
>>
>>53259080
I'm not hostile towards improvement (I'd love near instant boot speeds) but from all I've gathered, they're not noticeably faster for anything but sequential read and write speeds (about which I don't care)

This dude here even has a better CPU (I only have a 2500K) with his 950, but my 850 boots just as fast if not faster than this (even disregarding his ridiculously long gaymer meme motherboard BIOS load time): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mlR5L0w6OVU
>>
my pc now boots faster than my 600 dollar monitor can turn on
>>

>no noticeable improvement for day to day use
This is true, the human eye can't see faster than SATA3.
>muh overheating meme
It's not a meme friend, m.2 drives overheat literally all the time, which is why Samsung have lost trillions of dollars in warranty repair, and have announced flash storage as a dead technology.
>>
>>53259212
kek
>>
>>53258936
so why is the sm951 cheaper for the same GB when it has faster write speeds?
am I missing something?
>>
>>53259250
it's not a consumer version and doesn't have warranty afaik
>>
>>53259250
it doesn't work with samsungs software and i think it has shorter warranty. don't quote me on the latter

OEM product, so no direct waranty from Samsung, use your vendor.

Also, 950 pro is black, which looks better

Also, 950 has V-nand, which is supposed to be newer and better and shit.

Samsung magician software is a load of crap. If the drive does 2GB/s reads, you do not need RAM for caching.
>>
>>53259310
so you're pretty much saying don't fall for the flashy consumer one, buy the less attractive, much cheaper but better performing option.

I don't understand why the 951 isn't the one in the spotlight so to speak..
>>
>>53259351
It is why I bought the 951.
>>
>>53259351
The warranty is a concern tho. If the "barebones" version fails, you're fukd

They do get hot. I am beginning to wonder if that's why my SM951 keeps shitting itself at random.

It's ok I guess, It's not noticeably any faster than my evo 850 in real world scenarios.

I think Rome II total war loads about 1 second faster

Yes, I will go M.2 when I upgrade, for now SATA devices will do. For people will new builds who just have an M.2 slot to fill it's easy, but for people on older generations using M.2 will require a new mobo, cpu, etc, etc
>>
>>53259250
The 950 Pro benchmarked better as a single drive. Oddly enough if you were to set up 2x SM951 in Raid 0 you would get better speeds than 2x 950 Pro's. Do what you want with this information.
